    Smallest Steer You've Had?

I once had an experience with a really poor feeding steer.  He was finished and ready for slaughter when he was 940 lbs.  I was wondering if you've ever had an experience with a really small framed steer that bellied down and was done when he was really light?  If so, how much did he finish out at?

    Show Awards

I love getting buckles and chairs, but the problem with them is the big show kids who go to show after show and win big generally already have quite a few.  But even still, I think they are great.  Jackets are also nice. For class winners, I find that rosettes are nice for the day, to hang up...

Brush, Brush, Brush... Why is this so important?

Exactly. Brushing stimulates hair growth.  As well, it helps train the hair.  Just like when people brush their hair the same way everyday, it will fall that way more naturally.  Also, it works better if you brush the heck out of the hair when it is wet, and then blow it.

    Ranch House Designs on Facebook

My favourites "Oppurtunity is often missed because it is disguised in overalls and looks like hard work" "The expert at anything was once the beginner" "The ribbons fade, the buckles tarnish, but in showing livestock, the friendships last forever"

I clipped him, what do you think of my steer?

I second that!  You've also done a great job clipping him up!  The only thing I might be concerned about it that he will probably hit your target mark, but depending on how far away from your fair you are, he could lose a bunch on your trip, just a thought for the future.  Good luck!! You should...

Im new here and need advice

It sounds kind of harsh, but I find the best thing to do is rope them, cinch them up to something secure (fence, post, rail, etc), put a halter on, tie them up, and LET THEM FIGHT IT.  I find it teaches them respect for the rope.  I leave them for about 6 hours as long as it's not too hot out...

which two heifers would you keep? New pics of 2 and 3 and parentage

One thing to keep in mind in the commercial end of things, not quite sure how the club calves compare, but with commercials, as long as they can pop out the calf by them self, they are good to go. If an animal has a 60 lb calf, but it has to be pulled, that's no good. BUT, if an animal has a...

    Two Questions(: Clipping/Fitting and Tattoos.

Clipping - NO two animals will ever be clipped the same.  You need to picture the PERFECT animal (whether it be a steer, heifer or cow), and then shape them by clipping to make them look more like the ideal.  Look at pictures of grand champions from denver, IOS, etc to see things close to the...

Does anyone have a video or 'instructions' I guess on how to make a tail ball :/

Like he said, have someone else (if possible) hold up the outside of the hair, tease/backcomb all the rest and use a bunch of glue, then let down the outer hair, and with the help of lots of glue, shape the outer hair into a sort of tear dropped shape covering up the teased hair.  Make sure to...

    Hereford Paint

The new weaver line of paints is awesome, lots of variety.  The cinnamon or fawn are what I use, depending on the shade of red of the Hereford.

    Show Ring appearance

My steer does this too, and I use my showstick and rake him just behind his front legs, and he pulls it up.  But DEFINITELY try to clip him to hide this problem!
