    photoshopping

Obviously cowpoke has trouble reading the English language.  Too bad people can't respect a simple request without adding their own opinions.  That causes a lot of people not to want to engage in a conversation on this board.

    Cleaning combs

We use WD40.....cheaper by far than any of the products from the cattle supply companies.  Works wonders.

    Steer Hair Growth

A combination of things- -rinsing once or twice a day -lots of elbow grease with a rice root brush.....brush, brush, brush and then do it some more -keeping the animal in a dark area during the daylight -if you can't put them in a cooler, then fans in a dark area will work also. -good genetics...

    Young Money daughters?

Here are a couple pics of one we raised this year.  She is out of a Maine/Angus cow.  We really like here....great lives, strong top and really stout.  We have her listed in the classified and if we don't get her sold, we will keep her, show her and put her back in the herd.

Showing a heifer vs. a steer

One thing to remember with heifers also is even though a heifer might be broke and docile most of the time, when they are in heat they act completely differently in the chute and the ring.  Much more difficult to have stand still.

Looking for Fall 2014 Club Calf Sale in the MidWest

Go to showsteers.com    Under "directories" click on listings by state and you can see more sales listed than you can imagine.  The amount of quality sales in southern Iowa alone will blow your mind.  Good luck.

Showing a Breeding Heifer as a Market Heifer (Pic;Opinions welcome!)

If you go into this show only for the experience of getting out and showing regardless of the result then you will be fine.  Truthfully, there is nothing about your heifer that will make it even semi-successful in a market heifer class.  Not to sound harsh but you will most likely finish at the...

    Why show steers

AMEN!  Showing any calf is not about making money.  It is about spending time together as a family.  Some people pour money into boats, campers, or golf clubs......we put money into an educational experience where you teach innumerable life lessons to young people.

    Champoin, Reserve, Third Overall...

At the Iowa State Fair, they pick a top 5 from the championship drive regardless of the amount of animals in the show.  To be in the championship drive for breeding you must be either Grand or Reserve champion in your breed or commercial division...not just 1st or 2nd in class.  In the market...

    Shows

Norfolk Thanksgiving weekend.  I believe heifers show Friday and market on Saturday.  Decent sized show but payback is reallly, really low if that is important to you. Badger Kick-off is very big and usually the first weekend in December.  It is at the Wisconsin State Fairground in Millwaukee. ...

    ..

Graphite poweder works very well.  It can be messy but it is effective.  You can purchase it at most farm stores.  I believe its original purpose was to put on wagons or old style gravity boxes to make grain run out smoother.  Not very expensive either.

at the end of the rope

"Halter Broke" and "Broke to Lead" are two completely different things.  I know you are disappointed and upset but it is too bad you are giving up on the "industry" because of one bad experience.  Cattle have distinct personalities just like humans and YES, there will be times you won't...

    tipton ia show

Yes, It is Saturday Oct. 12th.  The judge I believe is Dunk.  I don't know any other details but if you google it you can find some contact information.  The next day Kirkwood is having their show in Cedar Rapids only about 30 miles from there.  I heard Brad Hook will be judging that.

Need Advice....should I try to start my daughter showing?

If they kid has desire, that is half the "battle".  Take advantage of that current attitude and go ahead.  There is not a better way for family to spend time together and learn so many valuable life lessons.  We have found that the earlier the kids show desire and start they better they will be...
