Cattle that win everything everywhere they go...at big shows not little ones

    Judging ?

Really...don't see your concern...can't see him buying anything that isn't borderline perfect.  If its the heatwave 5 you posted, don't mess with it

    pregnant cow not calved yet

Do your due date on 40 weeks instead of 9 months...I had a different date that way.  Depends on cow...I had first tine heifer go 7 days over just fine...70# calf unassisted. Rode with vet today...we went to pull a backwards calf from a prolapse cow that was a tank of a hereford...owner was...

Best type of breed, or animal to use as a milk cow?

Easy butter-get the cream separated from milk and put cream in a tight sealing canister(mason jar with lid is great).  Wrap in a towel just in case it leaks and shake, shake, shake. And shake some more.  Pass it around the family shaking until it gets lumped up and butter consistency.  Heresy...

    Heatwave 5 Heifer

Do you realize how many purebred maines there are?? Get the name of the sire and dam....you're not getting help because you're giving the info people need in order to help you.  It's a heat wave, your maternal stuff is going to suck.  I will not own a heat wave unless its free.  Too many...

Anybody Else Feeding hay in June?

Wish we could've gotten that rain in my area of IL.  Corn is drying up on some leaves after the 108 actual temp.  Just realized how short our beans seem.  I feel like they are usually taller by now but there's some that might be 6" tall if you stretch it out.  The only corn that looks normal is...

Best type of breed, or animal to use as a milk cow?

I'd say stick with a cow.  Look into mini jerseys...they'll he a tad more expensive to buy, but it will be less to feed and easier for your kids to mess with.  Granted the milk production will be reduced but I'd talk with a breeder on how many ppl one can milk for.  I hate goat milk as well...

Anybody Else Feeding hay in June?

Got lucky today.  Picked up 79 bales of wired, stout baled, fresh green, second cut alfalfa with a little grass n clover but 95% alfalfa for $3.40-$3.80 a bale(small squares), by far the best deal of sale.  And 10 bales of twined straw at $2.  Go me! First time hay buying on my lonesome and all...

Anybody Else Feeding hay in June?

Bet all them buyers that were paying $2 and up for feeders around here are starting to regret it.  Actual temperature is supposed to be near 108 here in west central IL plus a few other 100+ days coming. Corn doesn't look good now, don't want to see it when I come back Sunday night.  Our hay guy...

I would talk to a local taxidermist.  That's who I'm going to try to get a lamb hide done by.

Tink says 'Hello Steer Planet' - a Cute pic of my steer(:

We butcher our own and I am always thinking I'll have have harder time with one(ours are very tame bottle calves too), but everytime they SOP something to make me mad when we are loading them to take to the neighbors where we do everything...one stepped on me to the point that I couldn't get...

Funniest or Embarrassing Moments? Post them here!

My houdini cow/heifer.  Brought her into county fair(embarrassing enough bc she's pretty un-exhibition quality).  Tied her and the little calf I was showing up...go back to sheep barn(still in sight of cow) to fill waters etc.  Less than 5 minutes later sheep friend hollers " is that your cow?"...

It is soooo hot here... (compared to normal!)

I wanna be in this 90+ Illinois.  St Louis area is 100+ actual temperature Thursday thru Sunday.    We have corn tassling that is only 5-6 feet tall.  Our grass is green, but we have good ole fashioned prairie grass so its a bit more heat tolerant.  The cow looks better than she ever has in the...
