Picture of my new Steer project

Well here he is. We Aussies have no idea so tell me what you think. Very green been shut in a yard off cow for 5 days so not looking his best. Rat tailed but dead quiet hoping he will be right for my six year old sons first calf. Thoughts

    Breeding for longevity

I think is is quite a cow knowing the country she has been on. Happy with her hfr calf and very quiet when going through the chute  <beer> Did not end up flushing her yet because I was moving and struggling to find recips. So she is in calf to the bull I posted a few weeks ago Yes I would...

    Breeding for longevity

Just clocked in to this thread. Some interesting ideas. To me in commercial herds it is hard to justify cows past 10 and some may argue past 8 if the cows calve at two because weaning weight decreases. Seedstock  produces however I feel can justify old cows for the value of the genetics they...

    Aj's Theory

Not really in to this he said she said stuff. AJ I have enjoyed your cattle posts of late. I had the fortune of meeting the Stephensons while I was in Canada. They knew me only from my posts on SP but took the time to to tour me and buy me breakfast. Their hospitality was very much appreciated. FWIW

AJ I would say 90% of seedstock producers here scan their contemporary groups of bulls prior to sale I am surprised that is not the case over there. However the scan data does not always correlate or change EVBs

    Drought Predictions

In the country of extremes we are just getting over bush fires to be hit by massive floods in the north of the country. Parts of Queensland received up to 800 ml in a day. Average rain where I live is 45 inches

    Anyone like craft beer?

Craft beer has become very popular over the last 5 years with small micro brewery's turning up all over the place. These have joined the natural food movement appearing at food festivals and farmers markets and pubs that were in decline and reinvented themselves. Craft beer has taken over from...

    Australian Heatwave and fires

Fires in our state have settled down but everyone is still very much on edge. A good spring and now a dry summer has meant a lot of long dry feed for fires to travel quickly. The biggest fire here burnt over 100 houses and killed thousands of sheep and hundreds of cattle but thankfully no lives...
