    calling all hair experts!!!!!!!

I always keep my cattle clipped because when it comes time to show I'd rather spend a little time fine tuning them than a lot of time working on a fuzzball that hasn't been touched.

Team of Judges Better Than One Judge

No matter what kind of system you use, the better cattle will always end up at the top. They might be switched a place or two but they'll still rise to the top. Same goes for the hair argument with steers in Texas. Hair or no hair the same families still find their way to the top. The only time...

    clipping question

What your asking is almost impossible to put into words. With all the majors coming up I would go around the barn and watch. If you know any fitters just ask them if they'll show you.

    New Classified System

I love them, but I don't look at SP on my phone. I like the fact that there has to be a price so there aren't a million "pm price" posts.

Andis Excel vs ConAir Brushless Clippers

I really like my five speeds. I was indifferent about having five speeds when I first bought them, but after I started playing with them I really like it! You can run a set of blades on low all day long without them getting hot, but crank em up and you can cut through anything. They are also a...

    dyeing a calf

Follow the directions and don't get it on anything you don't want to turn black.

    Fort Worth Stock Show hotels

There are a lot of nice hotels near the stockyards to stay at. You need to get it on it though because hotels fill up fast and the show is less than a month away. As far as travel tips its a pretty good show. Expect to sit in line for a while why trying to get into the barns. The feed office...

    Line Breeding- Bad Idea?

If the calf turns out good it's line-bred, if it turns out horrible it's in-bred  (lol)

    Andis Human Clipprs

Never used them on cattle, but my mom bought a pair to use on our dog and they sucked!!! There's a reason they make a set for cattle and a different set for people. You get what you pay for.

Horse Meat Back On The Menu?

That's good to hear! I did a debate on horse slaughter and when they passed the bill the number of horses exported to mexico and canada jumped 300%. All they managed to do was drive the price of horses into the ground, cut a few thousand jobs, and make it even worse for the horse.

    Melatonin

Also, what you need to understand when feeding melatonin is that it's not X amount of pills you need to feed. You need to feed 100mg's a day to see a difference.

    News law -Changes-to-child-labor-laws-hurt-farmers "UPDATE"

That will never come to pass. Outlawing jr livestock shows would be like saying no one under 18 can play football because too many people get hurt. Some liberal jackass in D.C. that never played thinks its a good law, but in reality, too many people play for fun and will continue to regardless...

    News law -Changes-to-child-labor-laws-hurt-farmers "UPDATE"

I think it goes without saying that this law is total bull sh!t, but I don't think it will effect us as bad as people make it out to be. I would venture to say that 99% of the "under age" labor is happening on a family-owned farm or ranch. There is no feasible way for them to stop it. You might...

    Melatonin

Don't do that. You say you want to "keep him calm" which leads me to believe that he is already pretty calm. Giving a calf any kind of drug with a calming effect while breaking pretty much defeats the purpose of breaking. Not all cattle are puppy dog gentle, some just naturally have a bad...

    Fitters/Groomers

Very true! I've charged as little as $20/head to clip and up to $100/head to fit at a major. Hiring someone to work for you and do everything for the week of the show will usually run $100-$150/day plus all expenses.

If he already has good hair then why do you want to feed him melatonin?
