Which calf do you like best?

I like the black one best, although he might be a little wastier in the front end.  There are good points to both though.

    Cattle farms worth stopping at

Deer Valley's sale is usually on the Saturday before the junior show in Louisville.  It's Nov 10th this year.  A really nice farm to visit.

    Lutalyse for timed A.I.

I worked for a vet when I was in college who set up a few herds to AI with a Lutalyse protocal.  I believe it was a shot on day 0 then another on day 11.  Then we bred the entire group 48 and then 72 hours after the 2nd shot.  I think you could also split the difference and breed once at 60...

    Let's hear some calf reports.

I've got a real nice Shorthorn plus heifer sired by the Angus bull BC Classic.  My best Angus heifer is sired by BC Eagle Eye (followed closely behind by a Marathon sired heifer).

    Bull Fencing

Thanks for all the replies!  I figured electric would be best, but its always good to open up to new ideas.  I like the idea of alternating the wires on both sides of the posts, especially for the cross fence.  The tractor tires are a good idea too. How many strands of high tensile do you like...

    Bull Fencing

Just wondering what type of fencing everyone uses to separate bulls.  I'm going to have to do some fencing soon and I have a 6-7 acre pasture that I was thinking of dividing to house bulls in 2 runs.  I'll have 2 bulls for our cow herd plus we keep a few bulls to sell.  So this would be for...

    BC Classic

All three Classics have good dispositions.  The Angus heifer has wanted to walk right up to me since the day she was born.  Her dam took awhile to come around after we got her.  Feet and leg structure are good on all 3 calves.  Probably an improvement on the dam of the bull calf.  I have been...

    BC Classic

They were all 80 lbs @ birth.  The Angus heifers had one heifer & one bull.  The bull had one of the top weaning weights in my bull calves.  The heifer is out of a SAV Pioneer sired female.  She is smaller framed like her dam but pretty stylish.  The Classic heifer calf out of my Shorthorn is...

Bad Bad day yesterday (kind of long)

I did that once...fortunately I also forgot to unhook the boat from the winch on the trailer. ::)  So, I just pulled it back out and let it drain.  (lol)

    Help with EDP's

You want a higher number on calving ease and a lower number on birthweight.  As the other poster said, accuracy (the % below the epd) is important too.  The closer that % is to 100%, the more accurate or consistent that sire will be for that trait.  I would caution you not to disregard WW and...

    Fantasy Football 2012-2013

Week 1 was pretty sad for my team.  Week 2 was much better!  I had several players put up big numbers.  Probably won't happen again! (lol)

    Need help on a decision!

auctioneer brings up a good idea...if you want to get into cattle, why not buy some recips and some good embryos to put in them.  May be less of an investment to start off with then you could possibly raise your own donors.  I agree too with making the decision based on what you enjoy doing...

Cute Pic Of My Daughters Hog

    Question for camera experts...

I've been looking at DSLR and have been told that the lens is more important than the camera itself.  I think I've settled on the Canon T3i. A friend has one of these and it takes great pictures and videos.  Anyway, I found this bundle package at a couple of different places and wondered if it...

SimAngus Heifer Pics (Style and Lookout sired)

I had 4 Lookout  calves (2 heifers & 2 bulls) this year and their dispositions have been great.  Probably going to halter at least one of the heifers and I don't expect any problems. All of the calves have been "friendly" from early on and I can walk up to either heifer out in the field and...
