    Any Hard Rock calves yet?

I think it might be early yet, but I hope you get some replys. I also would like to know about his calves.

    Another genetics question

My friend has a Double Stuff cow. This cow was tested free of Pha and positive for Th. She is therefore a Th carrier cow. She was mated to Hannibal, and produced a heifer. He just got the tests back on the Hannibal heifer, and she is negative Th and positive Pha. I am assuming that Hannibal has...

    Walks Alone

I don"t size cattle by a frame score, and I didn't have a yardstick, but if the Ohlde angus are a 6 frame score, Walks Alone is a low 5s or possibly less. It is not my object to trash the bull. He has huge bone, and can only be called sound. Very thick and massive, breaks a little behind the...

    Walks Alone

Alpha, you are right on. If shorter and clubier is better, why are we meeting so much resistance at the local sale barns? I have seen Walks Alone several times at stud, and each time I am more convinced that he is a commercial cattleman"s worst nightmare. JMHO

    Open Bar

I am a fan of Open Bar. We will have our first few born this spring. I watched him closely for a couple of years before using him. After attending Ohlrich's bull sale last year, I was convinced to use him. I really like Wayne and Barb's cattle. They are good without being puds or peanuts, by...

    donkey

Over the years by trial and error, I have found that the best rig  to attach a donkey to a calf is as follows. The donkey can be fitted with a collar around it's neck, just like a dog collar. I like what is commonly called a tie out strap. These are at least 2 inches wide, better if wider, made...

Help, can't keep ear tags in

In the past several years we have had a lot of trouble keeping tags in cattle's ears. We put tags in the center rib of the ear. The two piece tags we use seem to come apart after a few years. Is there a brand of tags, or a better ear placement, that would improve durability? Any thoughts are...

    Open Bar and Trademark

Barb Ohlrichs told me they had not had any problems with birthing, but not to use him on heifers. I will know more in 60 days, as we will have a few. 100# is not too large for mature cows in most cases. I also like the Stand Alone bull owned by Putz. He is an Open Bar from Point Taken's mother...

    Open Bar and Trademark

I liked the Trademark bull when he sold last spring. I saw him later at Nichols and I still liked him. I intend to use him some after I see some of his calves. Until I see calves, I guess I would use his sire. I like them both.

    First Impression Any Opinions?

There are several Harrietta sons that interest me. We used some Hairy, the Hairy Bear son, and will get a few this spring. I am told that he might sire a few that are too straight, but most are good cattle. Show Business looks good to me. The 4 Ali sons are good bulls, possibly better for...

    First Impression Any Opinions?

I believe there were 3 or 4  full sibs from Harrieta this year. I have a friend who bought one, and he has seen all of them. If you can tell me which one you are talking about, I may be able to help. Earl

    Too Small Framed?

You are not being too harsh, but possibly not yet experienced enough. I watched in the 50s and 60s when the commercial cattle were being bred too small. It was the show industry that prompted the move to larger framed cattle. That is what encouraged the importation of the many new breeds. Do you...

    Too Small Framed?

I have attended several of the local sale barns in the past month. I can't tell you how many times I have heard that some of the cattle don't have enough frame. The order buyers around here will often ask to have the more clubby looking cattle sorted off. I have always felt that the steer show...

    Ahead of their time??

Back in the day, when taller and bigger was the goal, the DeJongs in So. Dak. produced a black Maine bull. I believe he was a 7/8 th Maine. My goal at that time was to produce some purebred black maines. That was very hard to do, using full blood maine bulls. Black 3/4 ths were fairly easy, but...

What's the OLDEST Club Calf Bull on DENVER DISPLAY Anyone Remembers?

On the subject of pictures, why have I never seen a picture of Heat Seeker's sire, Debull ? Was he ever in Denver ? Just curious.

    1/2 blood ali son

I believe that all 4 of the half bloods produced by Gateway and out of Hairetta are very useful bulls. They are not however, half angus as you asked for. I can't think or any Ali sons out of pure angus cows. Maybe someone else can.
