Bull to use on angus heifer

The Answer is a purebred Angus bull with very good Epd numbers. Pick a bull with high accuracy numbers for calving ease. Dead calves are most difficult to sell.

    Opinion on Heifer?

That is a nice purebred Limousin heifer.  She appears to be growthy, heavy boned, and nicely muscled. I would make sure she is developed on a high roughage ration without a lot of grain.(maybe8-10 pounds per day) She won't get real fat like show heifers often are and will will grow into a...

    Is Steer Worth Showing?

If you are proud of him, show him. Don't waste your money on all the feed supplements, etcetera that so many folks use. He is a feedlot steer, so feed him a reasonable ration and let him grow. Unlike about 98% of show steers, this one can make a little money.  There is a lesson in that by...

    Is this cow flush worthy?

Three year old purebred Angus cow of Musgrave breeding. She is clubby in appearance, frame 4.5 and productive. Her calf is shown below at 2 1/2 months. If flush worthy, what would you use?

    Breeding my Hereford/Maine Anjou heifer

Select a bull with high accuracy for calving ease so you have a live calf.  The dead ones are hard to sell. Wait a couple years before breeding clubby.

    Replacing a Switch?

Adding hair, twine, or other material to legs, tailhead, poll and I assume tail switch would be illegal in my home state of Illinois.

    This years Angus Show Bull

To be picky, I would like to see more masculine features. To me, the bull looks younger than 13 months. What kind of performance numbers and epd's go with him?

    Tile depth

Thank you for your input. Would B6X limestone (1-2 inch stone with fines) be acceptable over the tile/sock?

    Tile depth

I would use a sock over the tile to limit debris build up and clogging. Another option would be to use a French drain where a ditch is dug and filled with washed gravel that has some size. How deep did you run that shank?

    Tile depth

I have some wet spots on my outdoor exercise pens and plan to install some drain tile. How deep should I put it? 4" or 6" tile? Thanks!

    April steer calf

Here is a late April calf out of an Angus cow and either a dun Belted Galloway, or possibly Charolais(Firewater)bull. Wish he was hairier, but momma has fine, curly hair and neither bull is very hairy. We like him and look forward to next summer.  He is plenty thick. Any comments? Thank you.

    foundered steer

It may actually make the meat more tender due to limited exercise. The steer still needs to be fed to a finished weight and condition.
