    foot rot

I agree with Hamburgerman, with it not being footrot. I have never seen one with swelling above the dew claws from footrot, especially with the drugs you have already giving. Where did "it blow out" at? What came out when it was draining? I would get the vet out to see the calf. I like Epsom's...

    Opinion of steers

Do whatever you want to do at the show at home first. Do not change what you feed at home to what you feed at the show unless its the last hope. Some steers will eat a new brand at the shows compared to at home but only use as a last resort. I agree with Tallcool1 in getting him used to the feed...

    Happy Independence Day.

http://youtu.be/meLpuF9UMvk Not sure how to post it but maybe the link will work. I will take this patriot gesture, to any hired singer any day.

    Buttercup Cell Line??

No on hair,  the ones I have seen have been a ear punch. Also saw a sample taken from the side or underneath of the tailhead.

    Question about semen

Call the semen company. Typos do happen. Might be someone mixed up a couple numbers and didn't catch it.

    Implanting Eggs

Not much to discuss, 7 days after a heat take to your Embryologist and let him decide if the CL is good enough to try a egg. You can do 12 hours either way of a heat to work. Meaning if you have a Friday scheduled you can use Thursday night and Saturday morning heats as well. Sometimes I will go...

    Flushing Cow suggestions

Keep in mind what the bloodlines of the bulls you will be using on her daughters. There are tons of Heatwave sons and a bunch of those are out of Who daughters. So I take him of the list just so you don't double up on Who made Who. I like Meyer 734, Habanero, and Flush on your list and I do love...

Breeding Dilemma - In About 12 Hours

If she is only standing for a calf I would not get too excited. Any other signs of heat, other then the calf riding her? Is she sniffing and trying to ride other cows? Any gel discharge? Walking around bawling?

    Sprys On Target H189

Nice looking bull Grant. Congrats on taking a chance and doing something, instead of only complaining about a gene pool that is too small. Looks like he is everything the complainers on here are looking for but wont have the kahunas to try.

    Cool Room floor....

Dig down to sand if you can. Put in pea gravel, top with landscape paper stuff, then top off with cedar fibers. If you keep it clean and wet down to flush down the urine it will stay in great shape and only have to add cedar fiber as needed.

Probios him, and I agree to the grass hay, and if still bad whole oats in his feed.

    Hoof rot in mature cow

A crack is different from foot rot. If she has a crack and she is sore I would get her somewhere she doesn't have to travel far for food and water. Get you whole herd on a better mineral program.

    Poor Conception Rates...

Are you doing it inside or outside? Are you keeping the straws out of the sunlight? Was the semen purchased out of the back of a car with a traveling salesman or sent via mail?

    Poor Conception Rates...

Do you unplug your thaw unit right before you put in the straw after it is the right temp? I would check the thaw unit for a electric shock you may not be able to feel. I know that someone a year or two ago was having the same issue and found out with a bit of checking that they were shocking...

    best maternal bull poll

I think there are so many more choices. Are you going by what you have in your tank? The only one I really like for this scenario is Who but if you use him for cows it will limit some clubby bull choices later. Lots of the good bulls have Who in them and you do not want to double up Who lines...

Potential genetic defect in Shorthorn cattle

So if PHA and DS are somewhat related, do we need to check PHA carriers for DS?

    How long of stick?

Just long enough to move the back legs on a calf without turning the head at the same time. Not sure what length that would be without going to the barn and measuring, and I am too tired to do that right now.

day 25 after AI replacement Heifer in standing heat.

Unfortunately cattle never read the books we do, to learn the "norm". Are there any other signs of heat other then just standing? We have just started heat detecting and had one last night that was showing no signs until she came over to another cow and tried riding. I then saw a long string of...
