So do you look at how they hang in winter or summer?

    Scours in calves

Did you scour guard the cows? Wet weather, crowding, lots of things can get it started. If you didn't give the cows shots to help go get the oral treatment for the calves to give the newborns. You give it too them as soon after birth you can, I use Pfizer's, Calf Guard.

    Anyone have Combustible Calves

Not sure what this post and photos have to do with Combustible calves. I too was interested in his progeny. Anyone else have info that would contribute to the original post?

    Advice on clubby

I would use Grandmaster on her for her first calf, then go clubby after that. I do that with my first timers. Even use Grandmaster on my clubbier bred heifers.

    Believe In Me's as cows

Anyone have a BIM that has calved? How are they working? What were they on the Dams side?

    Feeding weaned calves

Just to add a bit about the Precon. I too have used it for years. I see it as a must for getting weaned calves off to a good start. To get the amount of drugs to help with the Coccidiosis the calves must eat 10lbs.  You can feed straight Precon or you can mix it with a "sweet feed". If you are...

    Sulfer Toxicity - MERGED TOPICS

Sunday morning the calf cant stand and you think that is normal? Just a FYI a calf needs colostrum 4 to 6 hours max after birth not 24. I still say its Piss Poor Management more then PEM, and your conspiracy theory's.

    Sulfer Toxicity - MERGED TOPICS

So you found the calf Sunday AM and was not sure it ever sucked but didn't try to give it colostrum until the next day, which is way to long and would never do any good. They didn't put the cow and calf in a smaller area where they could be watched closer to know if it got up and nursed?  I...

How quick can I AI after calving?

For a bull when she is in standing heat, if AI do the am/pm rule. Most cows will cycle back 45+ days. There is no safety issues trying on the first heat after calving.

    Et versus Invitro?

Has anyone from the board calved out calves harvested from invitro compared to flushing? Was there a BW difference?

Red And White One And Only Calf

    ..

The small pen is a good idea. You can rinse with water if it gets dirty but a wrap for a few days will help that. I would not put on Banamine unless he goes off feed. Yes he will be in pain but I would let him be ginger on it. If you give him pain reliever he may over due it. Let him feel the...

    Movie Date Day

Trying to get the nerve to go see Lone Survivor.  I know a guy that had done 3 tours over there and after his 2 thumbs up I will suck it up and go. What about taking a 12 year old boy to it? Too much?

    Steer Sire

There has been a ton of Monopolys bred that way but I am seeing more BIMs too. So those are my 2 votes.

    Blue Roan?

[ White Shorthorns are HOMOZYGOUS ROAN.  . That is the funniest thing I have read in a while, and with that I will not ever post on this subject again. I knew better....

    Blue Roan?

If you did a white on a blue you would never get a red. Neither parent has a red gene. So no red or red roans. If you did a white to your blue you have a 50% chance of another blue, and a 50% chance of white. Going with a black would give you a 50% chance of black and 50% chance of blue...
