determining whether a heifer is a freemartin

So why even develop the test if it doesn't tell you anything useful?

determining whether a heifer is a freemartin

You can do a blood test and then be sure before you put a bunch of time and feed in her. Google it to find the companies that do it.

My son's bull, he thinks it is the best one ever pictured on SP

And there you have it. Proof that men, shorthorn breeder or not, dosnt really know about BWs.(in people anyway) 8lbs is getting on the high side. Sorry boys, unless you have giving birth you cant talk about it.

    Hip Height- Fair Classes

Every calf at that one show has to be weighed with the same scale but I have seen 3 inches different with different guys measuring calves. Some like them stretched out, some bunched up. I think the weight is a more even tool to split classes. Also I don't sell calves by the inch I sell them by...

    Colorado flooding.

LOL that's the kicker. They say they pass on this kind of water. In their defense a lot of ditches have been washed out. One reservoir out east did have their headgate open but so much debris(whole trees) were coming down he was afraid that it would be stuck open. So it was shut. Now in the...

    Colorado flooding.

By the way they did, with the help of many neighbours, get the cattle out too. A dairy farm had to move close to 200 head too. Most were baby calves but they didn't lose one either. Lots of hay and straw stacks just gone.

    Where's the Feet?

Really,,,, now we must mow our pastures before taking photos so people don't think the worse, and everyone is a crook and trying to cover something up?  Come on, cattle look the best on green grass. Go look in person then.

what do you guys get for consigned animals?

That's a good deal. Some are 50%. If he gets traffic through I would take it. If you think it is easy keep the steers and try selling them and see how you get along.

    Simmental Heifer

Call a vet or feed store with someone you trust from your area. I will not suggest something without even know what state you are from. I think you are on the right track with the copper but talk to a local vet for suggestions.

    Simmental Heifer

Looks like a good start, she just needs feed. Also what mineral are you feeding I think she looks deficient with her faded dead hair and her not shedding out completely.

    Banding a navel

A steer or bull calf does not urinate through his navel. He does that through his sheath which is behind his navel. You may need to take a good look at a live steer to learn anatomy yourself before you act all knowing. I would not suggest it either.

Is this a good steer? PLEASE HELP

I would make sure you get a weight before you buy. I question that the second calf is even 400lbs let alone 500+. You don't want one too light so you are pushing him all year to make weight.

She has worked with almost everything we have tried for her and those were. Maximus- heifer, Chunky Monkey- heifer, Monopoly- steer, Carnac- heifer, Monopoly II- Heifer, I-80, Heifer. We did send her second calf to the sale barn and that was a Hannibal steer. All the heifers were retained or...
