for heifer calves, I use white tags and tag in the order of birth, 001, 002,003... the hundreds place helps mark the year, last year it was 901,902...
for bull calves, I use blue tags and just start at 1,2,3...
Heat Wave or Monopoly have both been working great. Knabe is right in that linebreeding can work. I would keep it to one time. I once saw an All About Who(Who Made Who x Who Made Who) x Who Made Who heifer calf. That might be a little much.
Do you guys have any tips on building a picture/video pen for calves? What type of fence would you use? Do you want it totally flat or a slight incline? How big of an area would you need? 50 feet x 50 feet?...
One reason most people don't know about why they don't sex semen more on bulls is that when you run the semen through the machine (flow cytometer I believe), you end up having to throw out 90% of what you started with. Basically take a cane of semen and use only 1 straw and throw away the rest...
Does anyone know how big of a generator is needed to run 4 blowers? We have 2 of the flux capicitor/double blower hoses hooked up and I didn't know how big of a generator it would take to run all four and have them on separate breakers. Or is that too much for a portable generator?
I was wondering where she went. I did not get to see the char calves in person at Dan's before the sale but saw them when I picked up our other ones. Wished I would have gone farther bidding once seeing them in person. Good luck. I take it this one is out of the Sasha cow. How did she do at the...
Fourth overall from Badger was the Maine steer and fifth was the simmental. forgot the names. Brock's Grand was a Heatwave x Irish Whiskey raised by Jeff Boddicker of IA is what Bob told me.
Taking 2 shorty hfrs and a commercial hfr, working on several others we sold, will probably end up helping on others as time permits. Looking to be worn out by about Saturday, hopefully a second wind will come by the time to drive home Sunday. I am wondering how many will show up since there...
If you are in the business of selling show calves in or around September, your sentence of Monopoly's look like fat steers in September should make up your mind. The Monopolys I have had are all sound, hairy, thick, and the customers loved them. I was using a bull for a while that the calves...
Yep, always going no matter what. Time to get the new calves out and see what they can do. Everybody has hair to play with that time of year. It is also about the best you can ask for on facilities for a winter show. I have to get 10 head clipped this weekend for it. Never really was a die hard...
If you want to do music, add it to a video for a calf or a bull or something that only plays when you click on it and not automatically. showsteers.com used to put music on everything but not anymore.
You can say I wasted my money but here was my luck with it. We used about 80 doses of the stuff last summer and my results were as followed. We got about 9% more the sex we wanted than average (59%). I used both heifer and bull plus. It did not affect conception rates on my normal AI or we did...
That looks good. I would just clip a little more off above the hock all around to give more shape to the lower quarter. That will also make the bottom of the leg look bigger. Just take a little more off and then leave all the hair to give that bulging heavy muscled look.
