    Black noses on Shorthorn

Here's an April yearling with a black nose. Her pedigree is like royalty and we get this black nose. I couldn't care less. She ain't getting the hot potato treatment either. Beautiful disposition. I gave her to my 15 year daughter as birthday present last night. She was thrilled.

    Commercial type Shorthorns in Montana

XBAR....we all understand that pasture quantity, quality and composition varies from farm to farm and from region to region. The non reliance upon feed concentrates to maintain good condition through gestation and early lactation is the point being made here. We have enjoyed excellent...

    Commercial type Shorthorns in Montana

Sorry, I have to disagree with you. I am skeptical as to how you can make such a detailed assessment only from viewing a couple of pictures. Any female of any breed that can remain in good flesh on pasture alone 30 days after calving as a 2 year old is by definition easy doing.

    Commercial type Shorthorns in Montana

Was out checking things at dusk last night.....foggy and wet. This is an April 2 year old Shorthorn that calved a month ago. She's got a real nice HD Swagger heifer calf at side. Hasn't seen grain since in over a year and even then only very little. About as easy doing as they come. Her Dam was...

    Commercial type Shorthorns in Montana

That's an impressive looking group. Obviously well managed....very professional.  What a great way to promote the Shorthorn breed. Wouldn't matter if you are a purebred or commercial producer. Those images would impress!

    Black noses on Shorthorn

EVERY breed has heroes and villians when it comes to calving ease, disposition, performance and so on. There isn't a breed out there than can claim otherwise. Demonizing Shorthorns is unfair. Purebred breeders have the unenviable task and responsibility of trying new things and taking much...

    Black noses on Shorthorn

Agreed. Any judge who would place an animal lower in a class due to it's nose colour is nothing more than a follower of fad and fashion.

    Black noses on Shorthorn

I was the fool that launched that little "black shorthorn" rocket a month or so ago......and, you know what? All of the discussions and debates around hair or skin colour and purity are simply destructive in my opinion. A complete waste of time. Every herd book has a margin of error in it's...

    Black noses on Shorthorn

Amazing historical information Grant! I can only imagine what the purebred scene would be like today, as it was many years ago, if all of the tools for parentage verification didn't exist....no DNA or blood typing technology available! We purchased genetics from some of the top breeding...

    Masculinity in Shorthorns

I would assume that if a herd is strictly culled on all the important traits with fertility at the very top on that list, then eventually these animals would show US want THEY are supposed to look like....and not the other way around. If fertility and feminine appearance actually go hand in...

    Black noses on Shorthorn

Pass Inspection?? I realize they reserve the right to make physical inspections but, I wasn't aware that the breed association is actually making the rounds? I guess I better put my coffee pot on. We've had our share of purebred Shorts born with black noses. And interestingly, all of them that I...

    Twins born week apart

After 35 years it is finally reassuring to learn that I wasn't crazy or somehow imagining this. I was a student at the U of G at the time and the animal science prof's I spoke with all claimed that none of this could be possible; I must be mistaken etc.

    Revival... Who is going?

Went last year and would love to go back this year but my schedule won't work this time unfortunately. Great event to attend. Probably the best Shorthorn consignment sale in the world. Who has a better one?? Steve and Julie do an amazing job and the attention to detail is second to none...

    Twins born week apart

We had it happen once many, many years ago...back in the early 70's. A commercial grade Hereford cow. The vet said it's just not possible to have this occur.....once the cervix opens up that's it; no way for another calf to be born a week later. Certainly not a live one!  I don't disagree with...

    Little Cedar Cabrera 24

He looks great! I was at the Revival sale last September where he sold. High Ridge is a good program and owned by good people. All the best of luck with him! He will be a serious contendor this fall.

Wonder why guns and bullets keep going up in price...this explains it. N/C

The great majority of this list is comprised of 3 world countries. I don't see Canada, UK, France, Germany and other 1st world countries with strict gun laws on the list. Where are they?

    thoughts on this simmental

I was at the Sweepstakes Sale and was quite interested in this female. It was a real pleasure meeting the Bramlet family also. Quality folks with an excellent program. Nice heifer! Very flashy and placed well in the show the next day too. Congrats!
