Barn floor ideas alternative to Cedar Fiber

Worked in a barn in the hill country of Texas, we had granite gravel to burn,  held up well, if it did get wet mud wasn't a problem.  Also had access to shredded tree limbs, leaves, bark at another place after you got it wet and packed it wasn't bad.

    Marshall Pride 4

Marshall pride 4 was the sire of Marshall pride 256,  tiny Tim.  A lot of people used him and then the mule foot, and no telling what else popped up.  Saw calves out of him in the early 70's,  owner tried to tell us foot got cut off on a piece of tin.  Then sport came along and it broke out. ...

Best Angus bull for club calves

    Titanium 5 vaccine

We used titanium on calves, tried to do it in fair weather,  they were a little mopy for a day or two but after that never had a sick one ever.  The year before we used it, we lost several, sick in the morning and past saving by noon.

    Hoof Trimming Table

If you have access to a good junk yard,  the hydraulic pump and tank off of old 45, 55, 95 combines come off as a unit.  The cylinders can come from tsc or off the machine.  They are one way but 2 opposing each other will work just fine.  Use the spring o matic design.

    Cottonseed "hulls"

I grew up where hulls were cheap and plentiful, before the oil patch figured they could use them.  It wasn't so much the filler part but the ability to make a ration lighter on the belly and still gain weight. We fed a lot of cattle where the 3 percent rule was pushing the capabilities of cattle...

    Red Emulous bulls

There will be more than 3 that were red or red carriers.  Dynamo might have been the main one.  Patriot, was a dynamo out of an emulation 31 daughter,  there were a lot of those scattered through the country,  the black breeders shunned them, the red breeders were just as scared,  too much gas...

    Insemination Supplies

Get 2 guns,  the sheaths will work on both size straws.  Where you get in trouble is 1/4 straw in 1/2 gun,  the straw will crush, you don't get cow bred and if it really goes bad,  you have to retrieve the straw from a very difficult place.  It happened to the neighbor.

my steer needs to gain weight!

You never described the droppings.  If he is full on 20 lbs of feed and cotton seed hulls don't really agree with him,  I'm thinking the palatability of your feed mix is lacking.  I'm gonna bet the droppings are a bit firm,  maybe even leaning toward tight.  Palatability can be helped by a...

my steer needs to gain weight!

I get the biggest kick out of the talk to a nutritionist deal.  Every calf is different, period. Is the calf eating all his feed?  Are the droppings firm or runny?  2 percent is a bit on the light side,  most will push the 3 percent range.  Add a little feed and watch the droppings,  if they...

Old clubby Bulls before my time- calling experts

I saw them as stout enough,  the cows they were bred to were a little on the common side,  and a little short on the feed dept.  They had some eye appeal,  just never had a great chance.
