    Two Tone steer (updated pics)

Sorry everyone.  Did  not realize it came up so small when I uploaded to photobucket from my smart phone.  I cant seem to get it any bigger.  Will be posting lots of pictures in months to come.  Thanks for the comments.

    Two Tone steer (updated pics)

Wow, seriously not even one comment?  This is our first really "clubby" bred calf to try at fair and locals keep saying he is good.  I wanted other opinions who know a hell of a lot more than me.

    Two Tone steer (updated pics)

What do you all think of my daughter's Two Tone Steer?  He is a May calf out of a SH/Red Angus cow.  Fair is not until Labor Day.  This is the steer that has been giving us so many problems while breaking despite throwing every trick in the book at him.  Doing better each day.  Is giving to...

Simmental bull on Commercial Angus Heifers

I will say it over and over again as long people ask.  Ebony's Grandmaster.  Had 10 calves out of him and none even hit the 80 pound mark out of commercial angus cows.  Up and running within mins of being dropped.  And those who say the calves don't have enough grow, they must have just had a...

HB Moto Moto (Yearling Galloway bull) cleaned up and clipped. New pics 01-02-14

Harley, This might be hard to answer, but who do you like better? Pericles or Moto Moto? Does one have more strengths or weaknesses?  I know we all are anxiously awaiting Moto Moto's calves which may help answer this question.  Love them both and have me thinking about giving them a try! I...

Heifer by Critical Mass - Opinions?

I think that heifer is cool.  Do you plan on retaining her?  If so what are you going to breed her to?  I'd go simmy and try WLE Uno Mas.  Love, love, his calves and they come tiny.  She reminds me a lot of the clubby bull Salty Dog in her markings etc.  That would be a cool cross some day if...

"Slow and Steady" or "Show him who's boss"?

Thank you everyone for advice and help.  It means a lot to me and why I love this site so much.  I will keep everyone up to date on this calf.  He is way too cool to give up yet.  One of the best calves I've seen in person or handled in the past 5 years.  We have big hopes for him.  Once I can...

"Slow and Steady" or "Show him who's boss"?

I think another thing I'm trying to figure out is if this calf is just scared, or if he also has a touch of mean in him.  It probably is a combination of both.  I treat a lot of my calves similar to starting a colt. So responding to pressure, disengaging his rear end so he cant take off with...

"Slow and Steady" or "Show him who's boss"?

I'm glad you brought that up because this steer is suppose to be my 70 pound 11 year old girls.  I am definitely worried and thats why Im seeking some advice.  I just want to make sure I'm getting all the advice I can becuase this calf is one notch above just being awnry.  Luckily we have a back...

"Slow and Steady" or "Show him who's boss"?

I'm so glad you all said that!  My wife tells me that sometimes I'm impatient and too rough some times.  But I feel that this guy has had hours of patience, time and easy and we are going nowhere.  He is getting tied up and we are switching gears.  He slipped his rope halter the other day even...

"Slow and Steady" or "Show him who's boss"?

So wanting some opinions.  We have a May born Two Tone that has the potential of being a really good one.  But since weaning, his attitude has me worried a little.  I currently have him in a small 10x20 pen.  We bring him his water morning and night and have him eating really well.  We are...

    My steer as warts

I am a firm believer in buying the vaccine and giving our calves a dose as soon as we put them in the pen.  I then do another booster in 3-6 months. Basically trying to get ahead of the whole wart thing. It has really seemed to help prevent them or reduce them significantly.  But once started...

    Mister

OK I built one last summer and did a lot of "trial and errors".  I just went to hardware store and start looking at the garden / lawn / irrigation section.  You can buy tiny mister's for flower beds, etc.  You can buy the 1/2 in black flexible pipe and then all kinds of attachments for them. ...

    Red angus calves

Looking good.  Where did calf #45 end up going?  I really liked him a lot.

Just Arrived! My Daughter's new steer! It is her first.

Our steers are way smaller than I was anticipating this year.  They are probalby only 400 pounds right now for our Labor Day sale.  We will definitely have to push more this year.

Just Arrived! My Daughter's new steer! It is her first.

doc and Tallcool1 as a commercial rancher, we are kinda new to feeding show steers so your posts got me thinking a little. So if this kiddo started this steer at 12 pounds of finisher and then added 1 pound per week until she got up to 25 pounds (so 13 weeks, or a little over 3 months...

Just Arrived! My Daughter's new steer! It is her first.

Good looking steer! Where are you all at? Our fair is also Labor Day weekend, so by doing the math that is a little over 300 days of feeding.  At 3 pounds of gain per day that could potentially be 900 pounds.  So you have plenty of time.  If he was lets say to turn out to be a 1350 pound steer...

What do you guys think of this heifer?

hsShowCattle, How is her disposition.  A good friend used Brilliance on a bunch of heifers last season and a big majority of the calves turned out to be pretty awnry?  I like him a lot but worried about attitude?  Just curious.  And by the way, I think she looks great.

    Steer prices

My kids are in a similar situation as you.  Our fair is tiny, but we do usually have between 30-40 4-H and FFA steers. It's really all about your area and your sale in the end.  Our fair sale average price was $2.25 per pound X 1300 pound average steers comes out to $2925. We don't have the...
