    Baby Calf Photos

Here is a pic of this years Tenacious calf back in early April at about 700 pounds. His feet were long  .  Heb us not sway back. Again not the best pic

    Baby Calf Photos

My son is getting ready to show his second Tenacious calf from Mill Iron A Livestock this coming Labor Day at our county fair.  I think he has a shot. His first steer is in my avatar.  He got reserve last year and should have won but we didn't push him hard enough in the end.  Not the steer's...

    Baby Calf Photos

Tyler, 94 is my favorite and 154 and 58 are my close second.  The 97 red calf also sticks out.  The Moto Moto calves also have me thinking.  They look like they have a lot of room to grow. Not nearly as hairy as I thought they would be.  But overall a crazy nice set of calves.  Hope to post some...

    Cattle prices wow!

Holy Moly!  Out west our hay prices are crazy due to the drought.  My father in law just sold every bale of plain jane grass hay (I mean plain jane mediocre) hay for $275 a ton.  Alfalfa is over $300 a ton.  Our Diesel is $4.15 per gallon.

    Slick shearing cattle

Ya, do you do everything? My boy has a steer that has little to no hair what so ever. The hair he has IMO actually hurts him more than helping him.  He is yellow and I think slick shearing him would really make him look good, but never done it before.

    Cattle prices wow!

I think justintime had some good points. The bailer story Gas $4.15 per gallon in my town mediocre hay $250-$350 per ton The money it costs to survive as a ranch is up and these prices are a reflection?  Lowest numbers of cattle in US history?  Either way it is going to be very interesting to...

    Cattle prices wow!

Just saw last night that a full truck load of 500 weight steers went for $3.00 a pound.  I think it was through Superior video livestock auction. I believe they were out of SE Oregon or Northern Nevada.  Wow!

5.5 day Sync let me down

I've had several PM's and I am now leaning towards the drought.  Hot weather and not nights with little cool down.  I guess I need to quick being tight and find me a good clean up bull.  Thanks for the help all.

5.5 day Sync let me down

Good info. I'm really leaning toward environmental factors also.  I'm not the best AI'er, and I know there are ton's of factors that come into play, but I figured I would at least get one or two to stick.

5.5 day Sync let me down

So after getting really excited about trying the 5.5 day CIDR Sync program with an extra shot of (PG) when pulling the CIDR's, I am really disappointed.  I only did 5 head, but first round 0 took.  Just got my biopryn blood test results on round 2 and zero / zippo.  So now I have 5 of my best...

AI'ers please give me some confidence

Just finished up doing a few cows last weekend on the 5.5 day protocol.  I think I like it a lot.  Seemed to get some really strong heat signs by using it.  Anyway, this is only my third year at AI'ing and only do a handful of cows each year (10 or less).  Each year the first 5 cows I exit the...

    Simmy folks - Question

Yes for production. Thought I could enhance weaning weights and have some good replacement heifers

    Simmy folks - Question

Thanks for some to look at.  I know Dream On is everywhere and most are looking to the next new thing.  But I don't want to waste these straws.  I personally do not have any Dream On influence right at this point and will be needing a new commercial bull in the next year or two.  Thought about...

    Simmy folks - Question

Are there currently any Dream on / NLC upgrade cross bulls out there? Or Dream on / Grandmaster bulls out there that someone can point me out to look at? I have four straws of Dream On semen in my tank and trying to strategically plan a future breeding to get a new herd bull for our commercial...

    grandmaster offspring?

He will be my go to heifer bull for years.  Small, hearty, vigorous calves. They are not always mind blowers for the first few months but then they come on. Probably the best heifers we have on the ranch.

AI'ing and vacinating at same time

Thanks everyone. Kinda screwed up this year all based on moving the AI'ers away from rest  of herd. I will check with my vet.

AI'ing and vacinating at same time

So I was planning on AI'ing in mid June or a little over 30 days from now.  Is that too close to do it now?  Long story short is I separated the few cows the kids wanted to AI from the rest of the herd and put them in a different pasture.  Did not get them vacinated / wormed like the rest.  Now...

AI'ing and vacinating at same time

So we are still fairly new to AI'ing and learning more each year.  Can a person go ahead and vacinate cows / heifers at the same time you run them through to start the sync (CIDRS, etc) ? Will anything like 7 way or virashield screw things up as far as syncing?  What about worming as well? Thanks
