Walks Alone Calving help - updated with pics

Good point Chambero.  I figured if something was wrong or calf died, I would see some type of reaction by the cow.  She appears to be doing fine, eating well, etc.  I appreciate everyone's help and encouragement.

Walks Alone Calving help - updated with pics

Day 8 overdue.  Three inches of snow, miserable outside and still no calve.  Quick question for everyone.  Usually when you start seeing significant amounts of mucus or clear "stringers" hanging out my experience is stuff is starting to happen.  This cow has been doing this for about 5 days...

    Needle Size

I use 20 x 1.5 The smaller gauge needle seems to help reduce the chances of meds leaking out like they sometimes do with bigger gauge needles. I like to give shots on lower leg, half way between pin bone and the twist / udder.

    2014 Babies

Nice calves!  My daughter's pic is the second calf.  She refers to those as "Panda Bear" calves here at our place. One and only has been on my "to try" list.

Walks Alone Calving help - updated with pics

I think I'm going to go the "mother nature" route.  She has never had a calving problem in the past.  But if she goes to this weekend, I will consult my vet and probably look at inducing.

Walks Alone Calving help - updated with pics

Sorry everyone, busy weekend and just now got back to a computer.  So today (Monday) is day 7 overdue.  Still no calf.  She has been having pretty big mucus "hangers" for the past couple days.  This morning her bag looks the biggest it has been and she appears to be springing a little more than...

Walks Alone Calving help - updated with pics

Thanks Freddy, I'm keeping my eye on her and good info to know.  After breeding her to W.A. I've been a little nervous as my daughter tried a Two Tone early this year and it was horrible.  The steer actually might have been one notch below the meanest Mexican fighting bull you have ever seen. ...

Walks Alone Calving help - updated with pics

Thanks everyone!  Most of her calves have been out of commercial bulls, angus, some herefords, and last year the Grandmaster simmi bull via AI.  I AI'ed her and she stuck first time per a positive biopryn blood test.  Has not been with a bull for the past two years. Using the 283 day calculator...

Walks Alone Calving help - updated with pics

On some of my posts I've mentioned our first attempt at a clubby calf this calving season. Walks Along bred to a black brokle faced Herf/Angus cow about 7 years old.  Yesterday was her 3rd full day over her due date.  She is bagged up, but not super tight.  No signs of anything.  No tail in the...

    Pays to Dream daughter

I'm assuming you also want to stay away from too much Dream On influence for you pick as well?  I'm like a broken record on this site, but my vote for a EASY calving, healthy calf would be Grandmaster. You will get a live calf (which should be the #1 goal) and if you give it time it will turn...

Opinions on the 5-day CO-Synch + CIDR program

Thanks everyone for the heads up on the doses for Estrumate vs. Lute.  I might have screwed that up.

Thanks I will check.  I was just assuming it was the same as Lute.

    Funny calving story today

So I have a Herf/Angus brockle faced cow three days overdue with a Walks Alone calf.  It is raining / sleeting here and kind of miserable.  I had to be out of town for work so I asked my neighbor (a retired cowman) who does day work for us sometimes to see if he would check on her a couple times...

Opinions on the 5-day CO-Synch + CIDR program

Yes, thanks everyone for the great info.  I'm going for it this year.  This will be my plan (to help with my work schedule) NOTE:  I FIXED THE DOSES PER MY ORIGINAL POST! Saturday morning put in CIDRS and 2cc of Cystorellin (GnRh) Thursday evening pull CIDRS and 4cc of Estrumate (Pg) Maybe...

Opinions on the 5-day CO-Synch + CIDR program

ai er, do you give everything a 2cc shot of GnRh at time of AI, both the natural heats and the ones that go the full 72?  Last year I gave everything the 2cc shot of GnRh both ones I saw come in heat and the ones I just bred between 66-72 hours. Am I just wasting it on the ones I actually see in...

Opinions on the 5-day CO-Synch + CIDR program

I'm super intersted in trying the 5 day instead of the 7 day, but running the cows through the chute yet another time worries me.  Super intersted to hear if the two shots at once method is working.

    Range Magazine Spring issue

I love the Range.  Hot topics have been horrible fire mismanagement by BLM / USFS, The Sage Hen battle, and wild horses.  I agree all things being use to try to keep us off federal land.  The Range does a good job putting it all in real life, simple man, rancher perspectives.

Opinions on the 5-day CO-Synch + CIDR program

When using the 5 day program, is the time you AI at 69-72 hours from the first shot of PG or the second shot 8 hours later?  Per the diagram its after the first shot? Also for a "normal" sized cow what dosages are people using for the 5 day sync?  2cc of GnRH when putting in CIDRS, and 5-7 cc's...

    Anyone have Combustible Calves

I know of some darn good Upgrades, Grandmasters, and Shocking Dreams getting bred to him this year based on only a few calves born.  Wide topped, big boned, very impressive.
