Thanks everyone.  I was starting to worry a little, but maybe not so much.  Will keep an eye on her and report when I can.

what does your County Fair give out for awards?

I'm glad you brought this up because it has been an issue at our tiny fair as well.  We have an even bigger problem.  Because of our community being litterally hanging on by a thread economically our kids are lucky to sell their fair animals.  There is usually only only a $0.25 per pound...

    Walks Alone help

We are scheduled to have our first Walks Alone calf on 3-24-14. (PS, this will be the first "Clubby" calf born at our ranch).  Will be coming out of a Ang / Herf brokle faced cow who has never been assisted when calving.  This will be her 6th calf.  Last two AI'ed calves came exactly on thier...

Angus Bull help - Malsons Cobra

Still screwing around trying to find a new heifer bull to use on some of my angus and sim/angus heifers for our commercial herd.  Has anyone used Malson's Cobra or have comments about him? CE is +12 and BW -1.1

Fall Borns Clipped , new pictures .

Congrats, seriously!  Those are some awesome calves.  Are you a believer in Smokin Bob? One of my kids is begging to try and get some char / smoke colored calves next year.  Thanks for the pics

    Won't eat cooked corn

High fat Rice Bran, Power Phat, Sure Champ, corn oil, equine fat supplement liquid, keep trying.  I'm also a big fan of diamond V yeast products that seem to help keeping everything working.  With only two weeks or so to go may not help.

    Hereford

I agree.  Go with Angus and get some good black baldy cows.  Then put some simmi on their babies.  Some of the new simmi bulls on my black baldy (angus / Hereford) cows are making some crazy good calves.

How quick can I AI after calving?

BogartBlondes, did it work?  I'm game to try, just as long as I feel she is ready to go health wise.

    Lights for Chutes

I was just going to say look on EBay under the 100 different types of 120W or even 12V LED lights.  Mind blowing how much brighter they are.  Even the cheap Chinese ones so far have worked just fine.  I never buy them directly from China but find a company that imports them.  I've put them on...

How quick can I AI after calving?

Thank again for the info.  It took me two years of AI'ing to figure out this cow is off on her cycles.  She is almost 2 days late on every cycle than the rest.  Even when sync'ed.  I have a horrible memory and now know the trick to help get her to stick.  We shoot for late March or April calves...

    Steer

Last year was our first attempt at cooking corn.  It was a chore, but it really seemed to help in the end.  Stole one of my wife's crock pots, put in a couple cups of whole corn and covered with over twice as much water.  Put on as low as it would go and cooked over night.  Fed in morning then...
