Is Captan a overthe counter medication or only by vet?  I have at least one heifer in our show string with "rain rot" ever year.  This stuff is nasty.  We started having problems after a trip to Denver several years ago when a heifer came home with it.

I saw some of the calves in the Great Expectations sale last weekend and there are a few worth a second look for those looking for sim/angus, charolais and angus heifers.  I don't have a vested interst in any of these heifers but if I were in the market for a show heifer these are worth a second...

I never count a charolais or char x out until after they have been weaned 60 days.  They can really change in a hurry.  If the genetics are there keep a wait and see attitude.

Good lookin' heifers. Fred do you think that your Eye Candy calves are going to be big enough?  The few Eye Candy calves that I have seen have seemed too small.

Has anyone calved Hooter out yet? That would answer the calving ease question.  This bull looks to have ALOT of muscle expression.  Muscle is ok in my book and is typically not an issue as far as hard calving.  Huge boned is a whole other issue and he does not appear to be big boned.

This is one of the cows that we Used Hamms Mogo on.  She was Reserve National Bred and Owned at the 2010 Char. Jr Nationals

We liked the looks of the Hamms Mogo bull enough that we have tried him on a FEW of our PB Charolais cows.  There are just now calves hitting the ground out of this bull.  We will have a few next March.  Biggest downside that I see with this bull is that we will be adding horns back into out...

I've gone to using real butter in all my recipes.  Have given up on the margarine products. Hope the crisco hasn't changed so much that my pie crusts aren't flaky :(  I'll try when the time changes.  Until then can't seem to make the time.

I try not to analyze any of our Charolais calves when they are born.  If there is a breed of cattle that can change, change and then change again as they grow it is a Char!  Some of ours honestly look frail when they are new.  Possibly because these calves are going to put on muscle as they grow...

Nitrates can be sneaky.  Anything from dead at birth to weak calves to some deformities.  Posting the dead calf is the only way to find out for sure.
