showmanship for dairy is NOT PRETTY MUCH THE SAME. you have to make sure they are moving slowly, stop with that back foot back to see udder, keep the tail down if she pees, several differences. oh yeah and you walk sideways or backwards not forward.
That's just great, JT thanks a lot we just pick up a Heatwave, the the first family was scared of him when they got him home. He was snottin and snortin in the trailer. we had second chance on him and took him. no seriously my daughter is 16 and has halter trained her own steer the last two...
last winter my daughter was getting a heifer ready for Pa Farm show it is jan 5 thru 18 or so. she rinsed every day untill the water froze on the floor. then she just blew her out each day. she got right up to two weeks out. we had several bad spells as long as its safe the calves do fine just...
focus on the next year's steer, when the time comes it will be hard but remeber you are not the only kid that has cried thier eyes out and decide on if you can walk away before the trailer hauls them away, if you have to load him, or if you need to say goodbye at the end of the sale and go home...

all that does is teach him to be afraid of someone behind him and get her run over. maybe even teach him to kick. definitely does not need to learn that!
depending on how moiste the feed is 2 1/2 5 gallon buckets weigh about 60 to 65 #s divided that is about 4 1/3 #s per steer he should be getting 3% of his body weight. more like 15# if he gets cut back on hay he will want/eat more grain. do they also have a good cattle mineral available to them...
our county requires the 4H and FFA leaders to check the steer and kid. prior to fair if they cannt walk them safely and have good control they dont come. on the other hand ive seen calves that are perfect gentlemen at home, because of the time in confinement get very pushy and unrulely at fair...
