    Oldest bull in the tank

I have 10 units of Leachman 600U, born in 86. For a bull his age, he has some good EPD's still.... but not sure what I would use him on yet.

    One Eyed Jack

We bought 5 straws last fall ($50/straw), got one conception. The dam is a first calf heifer, shown by our oldest at Texas Nationals (7th overall bred and owned) and Iowa. She is sired by Upgrade, out of our good Pacesetter x Built Right cow. Calf was 286 days gestation, and we ended up with a...

    HPF Optimizer A512 Simmental bull

Yep. Her dam is an embryo we purchased from Mark Benes (Gateway Genetics), Steel Force x REN Extra Nice. She is the first calf that dam had. Select Sires rep asked us to picture her so they might use it in the semen catalog. She is not for sale, my son would kill me if she left! She is bred and...

Here is a better picture of the heifer....

need help with breed for shows

If her dam is registered, you can get half blood simmi papers on her. No DNA needed. You can show at most major shows in the percentage simmental division with half blood papers.

    HPF Optimizer A512 Simmental bull

I thought I would bring this thread back up, since I am super happy about our results with this bull and his offspring. I was looking at the July/August copy of the Register, and noticed a little Optimizer heifer on the back cover in the Living Legacy ad. Pretty darn impressive! The two below...

    Opinion on Percentage Simmental Heifer

We sure love our HPF Optimizer calves! We will be using him a bunch more. We have a really nice summer bull calf, also with a white face. The heifer below is a November, out of a first calf heifer (who was 22 months old at calving). She placed 19th overall Bred and Owned in Iowa at the Nationals...

    False heat?

Just in the last 30 days, I have had TWO females do that. Both were AI'd, then came in again about 8 days later. Neither stuck to either heat, and we used Cystorelin to help if they were cystic. This time of year is so hard to get them bred, and stuck. I like to get all my breeding done by June...

    American Pride

We have a March calf by him, out of our calmest cow. That calf is NUTS! We will really have to work the heifer down, but the two times we have put her on halter she would take both her back and front feet, while on the halter, and try to stomp you into the ground. I have NEVER seen a calf do the...

    Sandeen Upperclass

So, where are they? Any word on how they turn out? He was real hot for awhile, but seems to have slipped off the radar? We were at the South Central Regionals in OK, and I am not sure I saw any sired by him, and there were close to 180 head there. I noticed his sired embryos got real cheap, so...

    Breeding Questions

We do not use a bull, only AI and embryos. There have been numerous times our females will not take AI. I will put a cheap embryo in them on those cases, and each time they have stuck the embryo. This is mostly heifers, and we make sure we use an embryo that is calving ease. But it has worked for...

    ACW Ironhide 395Y

I have seen him in person, and he is better than his picture I think. We have bred him to a bunch of cows for fall calves, and are eager to see the resulting offspring. I have also seen some of his calves at Taylor Cattle Compnay, and though they were young, they looked good. He seems to throw...

    Well shoot!

I went ahead and had our Monopoly x Built Right bull calf tested, and of course he is TH carrier. Oh well, but he looks great. I have not cut him, he is just such a great looking bull calf! I noticed a lot of these online sales going on are selling calves his age (October), and I think he looks...

    Kids heifers...

The first one is a heifer we purchased at Farm Fest last fall. She is a May 5/8 blood. Her sire is a Lock n Load x Audrey's Black Blaze bull and her dam is a Who x Meyer 734 cow. Really different genetics for us, but the kids loved the chrome. The second heifer is also a 5/8 blood, an embryo we...

    Kids heifers...

Well, I took some pics tonight, since we are bringing the spring show heifers in tomorrow and start working them. These girls have not been touched since last summer; no clipping or special treatment. I look forward to see what we can develop them into. Most are several generations deep in our...

    Hot Simmental bulls

    Hot Simmental bulls

We have sampled Select Sires HPF Optimizer, and are very happy so far. We have a November born heifer calf that will go into our show string. I also like the way Cut Above, or Fat Butt, and his brother Final Cut, has crossed on our Angus.

    Too much belly

My heifers go home and produce, shown or not shown. It is a matter of genetics if they milk heavy or not. But we also do not get them butterball fat for the shows...

Our Monopoly x Built Right bull calf

This is his dam. She is a 2007 Built Right cow that won a ton. We had her in Iowa at the last nationals there (2010, I think), where Brandon Callis was the judge. He placed her third overall as Cow Calf pair, and there was a bunch there. She is ultra feminine, with a perfect udder, super tight...

Our Monopoly x Built Right bull calf

Yes, he is half blood and already registered. We are THE (Total Herd Enrollment) so everything gets papered regardless. I would have him tested, or advise that, if sold as a bull. But I do not want to pay for a TH if he is steered, because it would not matter. I was thinking clean up for a club...
