    Judge underestimated my steer...

My son's steer was light and it was red (Hereford), he placed fifth in his class, judge said if he had an additional 150-200 lbs. he would have been push second and knocking on the first place door. His steer only weight in at 1079. A charlay won his class. The judge has an augus farm. That same...

    Interested In Showing Steers

I agree with LHB, don't look for a certain breed but what your budget allows, sorry I'm to far from Shell Lake to help you out with a place.

    misting system

Are you using the system on a fan, you could use the pex tubing that homes use, found it to be easy to attach and use. Use a ball valve also that willhelp you set the amount of water/pressure going thru the pipe. We used 1/2" and 3/8", it's what we had around. The needle and spoon is a great...

    Aborting cows

IMO, a late calf is better then no calf, I had two heifiers that way last year, to leave them open and feed them for another year and get no return on them is not a wise idea, feed cost are just to high right now. Do agree with jbzdad.

Brush, Brush, Brush... Why is this so important?

By the way, what is the proper way to train the leg hair? My family has got told so many different ways, I'm not sure anymore. Have not been happy with the leg hair since we started showing cattle, the body hair is pretty good, still learning.

    proud papa!!!

That's awesome. My two year old loves to wash the cows (and the ground). He combs and brushes them also. My daughter will be there soon also she is ten months. We all can be nervous with small kids around the cows/steers, but that was me at their age. We just keep a close eye on them, but that...

    Feeding pigs corn silage

Has anyone feed their pigs corn silage instead of grain and have you tasted the meat? My thought would the meat shouldn't taste any different. Looking into the future with corn prices. And if you did feed corn silage about how much per day? Thank you any and all help is welcomed.

    Problem with Sullivan's Fan

Try your local heating and cooling shop. They should have one. The start capacitors are used on your furnace blower motors also. If they don't have one in stock they can probably order one. They are pretty cost effective, should range around the $10- $15 mark.

need help with 4H letter to buyers

Some kids may beg for the buyer to promise a preminum, that is not right in my opion, our buyers say they really like the face to face invites. I can tell you of four buyers right now that will only buy from a face to face invite. This type of invite helps the kids break thru a shell if they are...

need help with 4H letter to buyers

My son hand write the letters, we won't let him do it on the computer then print them all not personable enough (my opinion), then we will drive him every where and he must hand deliver and personally ask the potential buyer to attend the auction and if willing to place a bid. He also shares...

    Obstacle course

I think this would be a great idea, except the tarp. I will be talking with our livestock association for our fair to get one started. What ever kid would want to show their "high dollar" animal, will be up to them. We should be giving the kids ample opportunities to show off their animal at the...

    Professional Fitters

I think it's wrong also for the pro's to fit a junior's animal, I agree with Angusboy, with the Ak-sar-ben rules. We have two counties I can think of right know in Wisconsin, that only the kid can touch the animal with help from their parents and other kids no one else can touch that animal.
