    Free 4 all?

I didn't mean they were carriers, just wanted to point out that it's hard to make breeding decisions sight unseen.  I sometimes type like people can read my mind! (lol)

    Free 4 all?

Without seeing him how will you decide what cows to breed to him?  I really liked the pics of the Ft. Worth and the Arizona steers, but they appeared to be different in their type.  Just wondering what a defect free sibling will look like.

    Texas State Shorthorn sale

Deerpark Improver (sire of Irish Pride) is thought to be the original TH carrier in the shorthorn breed.  I think oakview was saying that your heifers should be TH tested, and sires selected accordingly.

    Market Heifer

As I've gotten older yes, but I've much like stock cows, the prettiest aren't always the best!

    Market Heifer

(lol) But at some point just gate sorting them seemed like a good idea!

Topic for DL or someone equally as genius! (Bloat)

Just curious what kind of ration she is on.  Sometimes the wrong type of hay can cause bloat, just not sure what the running around would do.

Lone Star Sale - WHR Shorthorns

Another thing to consider when looking at these two heifers is the massive age difference.  The second heifer is over a year old in the picture, while the lot 11A is only 6 months. 6 months of show feed, and you would be surprised how much the young heifer will change.  It would be an easier...

Razor ~ The Next Great Charolais Bull

I hope that was a typo and you mean his yearling weight was over 1500 pounds. As a weaning weight, that might be a record! (lol)  Good looking beast.

    Interesting new Simmental A.I. bulls

I was really excited by his BW to WW to YW spreads, until I saw the accuracies.

    Choppin Wood

I saw a post, I think it was on Executive Sires, that showed a calf and listed BW of 121 pounds.

    ACEPROMAZINE

Also might be a good idea to try it once before putting her in the chute.  In rare cases it can absolutely put them over the moon.  Another trick if you have a regular chute rather than a blocking chute is to belly rope the calf for the initial rough out.  We have put a bar over the working...

    Bodacious bull calf

??? ??? ??? Wow, we have big (too big?) shorthorn cows, and I would expect anything second calf on up to be able to handle a 100 pound calf.  BUT, 130+ pound calf still scares the hell out of me!

    calf problem

A lot of times a young calf that has run a high fever will lose the skin on his nose.  Have you noticed any hair loss?

Interesting reading on Sullivan flyer !!!!!

The catolog says calved at 14 months.

Interesting reading on Sullivan flyer !!!!!

Ooops, edited my post.  I was looking at something else at the same time, and need to remember my old brain can't multitask.

    Bull Opinions:

Okotoks, DMCC ENTICER 9E is the sire of the ENTICER bull pictured, meaning he would be 3/4 in Canada, 7/8 in the US.

Interesting reading on Sullivan flyer !!!!!

As a side note, did anyone else notice that the Loving bull with the 4 frame was out of a 14 month old heifer?  Wonder what affect this would have on both the 64 pound birthweight and the small frame size...

Monopoly v. Eye Candy -- Calving Ease

T first I agreed with BS on this.  We have a herd of larger shorthorn cows, and don't blink an eye at 100# calves.  BUT - what if you happened to get a herdsire type?  Then BW might end up being the swaying factor as to keeping or cutting.

Frame scores - how small is too small?

TGC, I saw part of that same sale.  What really bothered me (unless I'm missing what scr stands for) was that a lot of these bulls had scrotal measurements between 28 and 32.  Not only wasn't impressed with their performance, but would be scared of their daughters reproductive ability.

    Chopper Breeding Idea's

What is she bred to now?  If it was me I would wait to see what she produces in her first calf before setting up the flush schedule.
