sept troubadour bull pic to cut him or to not him that is the???opinions wantd

Hmm, Maybe time for a little Devil's advocate. ;)  I wonder how many times a potential good or great sire has been steered because of this thought.  Especially historically when the pendulum begins to swing from short to tall, and back.  I'm not saying anything about this particular calf, or...

    2 Bulls

I agree, I like both bulls.  TDU, curious as to why you prefer the roan bull?  Seems to me that with two different angles, two different distances from the camera, and no age information that it would be hard to prefer one over the other, except for color. I really like the profile of the red...

Fringe x Fringe's Dam (Sonny) Bull Calf Selling at Paulsen's and Voegele's Sale

Agreed.  I like the way he moves out, and he is thick enough for me, but that shoulder set, and lack of neck extension bother me.

New genetic defect in Angus ?

As a side note to this thread, a gentleman from southern Wisconsin who I have known all my life has had several head with extra limbs he has collected over the years.  He has put them on display at several places.  I remember a huge Holstein steer with a fifth leg, and a horned brindle cow with...

    Strange death

My first thought would be blackleg, but there are a few more signs.  It is usually a very easy doing fleshy calf, and if you push on the skin where the swelling is, it will often sound like crackling paper.  This is due to gas release from the toxins separating the skin.  From what I understand...

What's your most exciting matings coming in 2012?

We have about 60 purebred Shorthorn calves coming this spring, and until they show otherwise, each is a potential national champion!  45 years old, and still allowing myself to dream. ;D  In reality we have 60 Shorthorn cows ran as commercials, and hoping for 60 live growthy calves.

Best put down a Judge has used

My nephew had a pretty good shorthorn steer in the Wisconsin state fair open show, when they still had one.  He sloped a little, and we put a fake tailhead on him, which the steer didn't like.  He walked with his tail raised way up in the air.  The judge talked about him in class, and said the...

If you own them, they will die....

Got some bad news from my dad yesterday.  Our Waukaru IMF bull, (18 months) got into a fight with our 9 year old Fuzzy Vision bull through the fence.  The young bull had to be put down.  I know these things happen, but it would have been nice to at least see the first set of calves before we...

    1973 Shorthorn bull

Hey Jud was the sire of Juda Ben Hur, raised by Colby Smith (?) Hamilton, Mt.  We went on a family vacation when I was about six, and stopped by this ranch.  I don't remember much about it, but they lived near some sort of a cookie or candy factory.  A lot of the damaged and dated products were...

    Shorthorn Bull - Opinons?

Well, two questions:  What did she have this year?  And more importantly, did you make money on this one?

<beer>Yep, they would probably have rolled that National Champion female if they had known.  This isn't like it was a $100,000 for half interest deal.  Breeding shares on bulls are going for $2,500 on up for 10 or 20 units.  This price isn't even a pimple.

    Shorthorn Bull - Opinons?

I really like his style and front end extension.  I would also like to see him a little deeper flanked, but hard to say not knowing his age, feeding program etc.  I also watched his video, and there is something I don't like about him on the move.  He has a good leg set, but I seems to drop off...

If I understand correctly, Grant didn't decide to keep an interest until after the hammer fell.  At this point it would be much easier to keep things straight by having 8 people pay $2,500 rather than 7 pay $2,857, and Grant pay the other 7 $357 each for their share.
