    Sullivan's Sale

Seemed like another great sale.  $100,000 top on a shorthorn plus, 70,000 top on the purebreds, and about 1.5 million total.

    Alan Sears

It sure sounded like Alan, but the audio wasn't the best.  I remember the first time I heard him with that high pitched YEEEEEEES! My dad and I went to the Irish Explosion sale in Springfield IL, back in either 1978 or 79.  Af Explosion came in the ring, and he scared the heck out of me.  Seems...

Listening to the Family Legacies sale on the internet.  Is there anything better in the auction world then Alan Sears cry when taking a bid?

Clubby bull to Cross with Shorthorns

From my experience with Waukaru bloodlines, it can be hard to keep the calves small enough framed for the club calf deal.  They tend to keep growing, and get to much air under them as they get older.  Good productive cattle, just not clubby in one generation.

    livestock saying and quotes

When we bought a Fuzzy Vision bull from Don Stout, he said "You can't eat hair, but you sure as hell can sell it."

    Bloom....

I agree with TSS, many of these calves are pushed to early, and are meant for the jackpot shows.  Not a lot are great as babies and fats.  An exception was the yellow steer Brock May won Kansas City with a few years ago. (2005 or 2006)  Bobby told me that was one of his favorites because he was...

    Red, White or Roan Shorthorns

The white heifer disease may not have caused her to cycle due to stress, but it sure kept her from getting bred, thus in heat all summer and fall.  She was the only case we can remember, and my great grandpa got his first registered shorthorns in 1917.

    Red, White or Roan Shorthorns

Not sure that it is a wives tale or not.  Back in 1979 (God I'm old) I had a white heifer sired by a Canadian Image son.  She was a non breeder, and hadn't developed properly, similar to a freemartin.  As an added negative, stress would cause her to cycle.  In heat at every show. >:(

    TH Status.

I agree that selling THC breeding stock is an issue, which is why I wish the status was more noticeable.  In some catalogs there are two or three paragraphs and the THC is at the end of the first, second or third.  sometimes capitalized sometimes not.  Just makes searching out the free cattle a...

    TH Status.

I have been going through several of the upcoming shorthorn sales, and have just one wish. (Besides a lot more money ;D)  It would be nice if they would put the THC where a person can see it, and in a consistent spot, like next to reg number or such.

    Cow Power XXXII

We purchased an IMF from Barry this spring, and he looks good after running with about 20 cows for 30 days.  Good bone, fairly easy fleshing, good front end.

Picture one of your favorite cows.

Any chance she could be part Braunvie or Swiss? That light line on her back seems similar.

What is in your tank you wish you had never bought ?

My dad, even at 79, has always been one to chase a fad.  I remember having some truly awful Alexander calves back in the mid 80's.

    End of March Heifer

I guess that goes along with what I meant.  When she has another 30 to 45 days of groceries, she will fill out like a llot of the highly fitted Feb. calves being pictured.  Just need to express myself a little better.

    End of March Heifer

I like her.  She appears to be very feminine and extended fronted.  Also, she appears to have enough bone and some natural thickness.  She just seems green and needs some feed. One point, if possible try to get pictures with your animals headed uphill rather than down.  They just naturally look...

    A steer from yesteryear

I also found this picture from Houston, 1984.  We sure did screw them up in 15 short years.

    A steer from yesteryear

Below is a picture of the Grand Champion at the 1969 Chicago International, the first modern crossbred champion.  He weighed 1250 pounds, and would look good today, IMO.

    Shorty hf bulls

Several years ago we bred all of our heifers to a bull called NPS Spirit of Rose.  Wayne Temple and Truckenbrod's owned him.  They calved easy and were hairy, just nice calves out of first timers.

    2011 Form to Function catalog!!

I really like the # 43 for her depth, leg set and front end extension.  It sure is nice to see what these beasts look like almost grown.  I would prefer to be a little different color, but shorthorns in our family for 100 years equals still disliking the black hides. ;D The lot I really like...
