    Using EPD's in a show?

Troy, I have to agree with you.  If you wonder why some have expressed concern about the direction the breed is going with the use of EPD's, I'd suggest you go to the ASA web site and look at the data from Louisville.  While I didn't take the time to average all the cattle shown - a quick...

    Using EPD's in a show?

RW, I would agree with you if all measurements weren't biased and manipulated.  Back when frame score was a "big" issue, I used to be on the junior board and we were responsible for measuring all the cattle at the major shows.  I can't tell you of the number of breeders who would take forever...

    Using EPD's in a show?

Having had the opportunity to judge a major show a few years ago that had data, I guess I look at it a little differently.  Like any thing else we use in evaluating cattle - frame score, weights, ultrasound data, etc. -  EPD's are a tool that has some value.  Is it the final answer, no but it...

For those of you've who have reminded me that the picture would look a lot better without the fences and cluttered background  you were right!  I've got a "cleaned-up" version that I'll try to post tonight when I have a few minutes to re-size.  It does make a huge difference.

New Calving Ease Shorthorn Sire - Last Chance to Place Spring Orders

Bob, No he's my father's place in the eastern end of the state - off I-40 and I-81 east of Knoxville.  If you wanted to go that way to Louisville, when you get to Chattanooga you take I-75 to Knoxville then merge with I-40 East until it gets to I81 (about 25 miles east of Knoxville), then take...

Sue, Do you think it's worth it?  We've done bulls before but with such small contemporary groups we've not been able to decide if the cost is worth it for females.  How much value do you think it adds to your cattle?

Sue, Sorry we didn't get any data collected on him.  He was a single in his contemporary group so we didn't have the number of bulls we needed to justify the expense of getting someone to come over - the closest tech is 200 miles away.  Obviously I wish I had that to do over, but at the time it...

A New SteerPlanet Partnership - and a special offer through the end of the year!

I'll be glad to get pics as soon as I can get to Dad's - he's 250 miles away and the calves are there.  We've only had two so far - one heifer at 65 lbs. and a bull at 75 lbs.  Both out of CCC Gold Rush daughters with the bull calf's mother being my nephew's senior yearling show heifer this year...

New Calving Ease Shorthorn Sire - Last Chance to Place Spring Orders

Mark, I don't have a rear view picture of the bull, but he does have more than average muscle. As we've said about him all along - he's a bull that's an optimum not a maximum so he won't be as thick as the clubby bulls but he would be above average.  If you look back at some of his early...
