SWEET March Heat Seeker heifer sells this weekend

I've got a 3/4 brother (bull) brother to her.  He is clean out of an Eight Ball cow from Kopp.  Pretty cool.

    Blue Roan Shorthorn Bulls

We've used about 40 units of blue blood and have had some very good calves.  Good consistency and sounder than most clubbly types.  Placed one last year at Fort Worth.  Our Best heifer this past year was a Blue Blood X OCC Jetstream.

rolled corn versus steam rolled corn

The problem here is what is considered Flaked Corn.  The Steam Flaked corn that is almost like corn flaked cereal is what everyone is thinking is so much more digestible.  And it is, however, this is only used in the feedyards.  The show feeds do not use this flaked corn but rather steam rolled...

rolled corn versus steam rolled corn

There is only about 2% advantage for flaked corn vs. cracked.  The perception among show people is that you have to have flaked but many people down here have  proved over the last few years that that is bogus.  The longevity and freshness of the feed is also a huge advantage.  I also agree...

    White Shorthorn Bulls

I agree there.  I wouldn't get started with any pha carriers.  Free 4 All is bred right and looks like he would work down here in texas.  I wouldn't rule out using Proud Jazz on your larger cows possibly.  The problem with most of the clubbier shorthorn genetics is they don't give you much...

    acidosis/laminitis in show cattle

Every bovine that is fed any grain will daily have a "touch" of acidosis.  Some cases are just worse than others.  The key is to feed enough roughage, or feed in a manner in which grain is delivered more consistently to the rumen to maintain a more basic ph.  God didn't design cattle to eat...

Reports on I am legend calves?

I have seen quite a few and not one that was perfectly sound.  All turn out up front and are jammed up in their shoulder a bit.

Doughboy- has anyone had any calves ..

He was raised by Dan Leddy.  I have a bull out of him and a Wrangler cow we just calved out about 40 calves and sold some and kept a Simbrah to show.  I also have a son of his out of a Troy daughter and two more young bulls out of him (Doughboy) and they are nice.  He is more of a complete kind...

    Milkman or Alias?

Your gambling big time when breeding to Milkman with those birth wieghts.  Realize that if anyone else had the two Americans from Charles, their hair and presentation wouldn't be any more than a placing steer or classed out two years ago.  Anything might work.

    Alias or Yellow Jacket

Use Alias.  Had and Alias x common meyer cow that was good.  Was black and white baldy.  Had some good calves out of him this past year and sold him to a neighbor of mine.  The cows need to be common and not clubby at all for soundness.  Not had a lot of luck with Yellow Jacket personally.

Angus Bulls on Dream On cows

Northern Improvement will work and they may be big but many of the clubby bulls we use today will downsize them.  Our best calves this year were out of NI females.  I am also using my bull in the avatar picture that is a Eureka X Full sister to OCC Freestyle.  He will dowsize but he is cool...

One and Only or Dream on?

That is two very different routes if you ask me.  One and Only if you want a show steer and a heifer that may be useful.  Dream on if you want a maternal oriented calf that can be registered.  I did buy some One and Only semen and bred some for next year but I use Dream On sons to offset the...

    POWER FUEL

It works well when fed the last two to 3 months.  Palatability is good also with most calves.  The problem most people make is trying to hard to get a calf fat and adding more than they need.  Feed it according to directions and focus on total intake of your ration.  Intake is the key to get one...

    Milkman history on calving....

He is a Heat Wave X Purebred Charolais.  Of course he will have calving problems.  Losing 1 of 3 is not good.  Losing 1 of 10 is not good.  It's a decision everyone has to make in the club calf business and it sucks.
