We just use gougers and then cauterize with a set of electric dehorners. You can make them look polled if you do it right.

We just started getting flat iron steaks cut out of the fronts. I was in a restaurant and ordered one and loved it. Can't believe that it took me this long to discover them!! <cowboy>

I offer high selenium salt free choice and at this time of year the cows have access to mineral lick tubs. The cows get a good quality free choice mineral the rest of the year. I'm not surprised to see a RP with the twins, this often happens with mispresentations or hard calvings.

Thanks for the responses so far. I gave the cow a shot of Oxytetracycline IM last night and plan on continuing with this treatment for the next four days. Since then I had a cow calve with twins through the night and she also has an RP...I could do a trial I suppose!  ;)

Does anyone do anything other then give antibiotics for a retained placenta?

I know for a fact that fly bait and coke works wonders on coons! If you decide to go ahead and raise groundhogs, maybe let the chokecherries grow as well, then you can tell everyone that you farm hogs and fruit! (lol)
