    DOCTOR WHO

I would have to say no on breeding him to heifers.  My personal experience with him isnt alot.  We had one last year that weighed 118 lbs out of a third calf cow unassisted.  This year we had a 103 pounder out of a fourth calf cow unassisted also.  Those are the actual weights because they were...

    Favorite Movie/Song

The Boondock Saints is a GREAT movie!  Right now they are in the process of making a second one with all the original cast and everything.  My favorite songs right now are probably Down and Out by Tantric or Sound of Madness by Shinedown.

    OCC Missing Link?

You should also look at Nighty Night.  We had three this year.  Two out of first calf heifers and one out of a second calf cow.  The calves come easy and have lots and lots of vigor.  They really get up fast and get going.  They seem to be growing very well too.  They are all pretty thick and...

    mastitis

Yes they can.  I work on a dairy about a month every year and every once in a while a cow will get it before she calves.  They usually get a hard quarter or something like before they calve and end up with mastitus.  They had a heifer get a hard quarter about two months before she calved one...

    Frozen Ears..

Does anyone have any good tricks to saving the ears on a calf when its born when its so cold.  We had a calf born last night about 7.  This morning he was very cold, covered in frost, and ears were solid.  I put him in the calf warmer, got him warmed up, gave him a bottle, and got his ears...

All the first pictures are of the bull calf.  These are some of the heifer.  In the second picture the heifer was taking a step so it looks a little funky.  Tell me what ya think.  Also calves were born on March 6th.

Had 1st MY TURN calves today... PICTURES ADDED!

I apologize for the bad pictures.  They did not turn out like I would of liked them too.  The lighting in the barn and the buggers would not sit still.  But these will give you an idea anyway.  Tell me what ya think!

    Best time to cut

We cut ours early too.  Most of the herd calves in march and april and we cut calves the end of may when we put the first group of cidr's in the cows.  We like to cut them at this time because it is so much easier on them when they are young and because it is alot cooler then.

Had 1st MY TURN calves today... PICTURES ADDED!

The cow is a PB Angus by Genetics by Design 049 out of a Generic Bando 581 cow.  We bought the cow back in 2006 from Mason Fleenor of Ida Grove IA when we sold off a bunch of his cows.  She is a BIG cow.  Probably weighs around 1800 pounds.  He is a super deep cow with pretty good bone (i think...

I had a set of My Turn twins today.  I am very very impressed by these two.  She had one bull and one heifer of course.  The bull weighed 75 pounds and the heifer weighed 71 pounds.  The calves have really good bone and sure are thick for being little buggers.  The also have nice front ends and...

    splitting semen straws

I have a friend that runs a dairy and he does this sometimes when he is using real expensive seman.  I know the one time he bred the cow he was flushing with half a straw and used the other half on one of his better cows that was in heat that day.  The flush went ok and he settled the other cow.
