    Rookie Show Question

Weaver Livestock supply has a great printable packet on fitting and clipping I refer to it often for those little things  you forget after 6 months off. I started as a later youth showman and know the feeling of loosing out on all the educational options. Lots of searches on this site have...

    How to answer judge's questions

A well trained animal will make or break showmanship. I had a steer that was blind in one eye and never did get very confident walking in the ring. Judge told me I did a very good job but my steer didn't "want to play nice" and that was that we were out. Be the first one in your spot, be the...

    How to answer judge's questions

I don't think he is necessarily looking for a "correct" answer in most places. He is more looking for HOW you answer. If you come across professional and well spoken with organized thoughts. Your showing will count for most of it the questions will probably be more to weed out the top couple...

    How to answer judge's questions

Know how much IN POUNDS you feed your calf. Always want to knock my 4h kids when they answer in cans or scoops, know your hay amount by weight also! Have a plan for questions, start thinking about your calf before you even start getting ready for a show. Step back and be critical about your...

Judge Question anyone ever show under.....

I don't think it was anything to do with politics or placing he seemed to be doing a proper job with his placing. I asked the superintendent because I was shocked of the judge change and he wouldnt say anything other then he was behaving inappropriately so IDK it all seemed really strange to me

    clipping and fitting fees

I think it needs to be a combo of AAOK and TALLCOOL for local shows/ jackpots we always do all the clipping and fitting ourselves. Even for state fair I do my own work now but bigger stuff like NWSS I have them clipped, we still do the fitting ourselves. I dont have a problem with people paying...

Anyone going to CO state fair??

We are planning on taking a Hereford pair to the Colorado state fair and just this morning my boyfriends work told him he could not have the time off, a shock to us as they were fine with it for months. I really need someone to help show the cow in the pair class if anyone will be there and has...

    Becoming a Judge

How exactly do judges become judges? Did they just come out of judging club in school? Or is there a governing body you have to go through? Coming from more of a horse background you have to go through a governing body and hold a card you can only get through passing tests. Never heard...

Muck Boot fund raises for HSUS

As a very popular company in my neck of the woods I hope for them that this was all a big misunderstanding and it be a lesson to them and other companies of how quickly a decision like this would affect sales. As was stated the stories still are not jiving and I plan to sit back and keep an eye...

Muck Boot fund raises for HSUS

Hardenblu2- Its almost as if their marketing guy saw one of their sappy commercials and was like " lets throw all our money into helping poor kitties and puppies!!!" and so they did without any basic research what so ever

Muck Boot fund raises for HSUS

In case anyone didn't already hear the Muck boot company posted a pic on their facebook page where they reported they were holding a fund raiser for HSUS. Definitely feel that this one needs the word spread as they are a product that many farmers/ ranchers use. I will add the link to the pic as...

What do you think about this steer?

He looks very sound and will make a great little project. Like Mandi said hes a little coarse for upper level showing but fed right he should grow up to look pretty good for a county project. Enjoy him and learn as much as you can  <cowboy>

    County Fair numbers

I think as we see beef prices rise you will see numbers at county fairs drop. I know at our fair there was a distinct split in the types of familys involved in showing. There were the commercial families who raised beef calves as a business and the kids would usually buy a nice one from their...
