    Power Phat vs Power Fuel

Can you tell me what the difference in these two products and opinions on each.  We have some younger steers this year, and a american trying to fatter a bit quicker although shows not till Jan-Mar '11.  Should we be feeding this now or wait a while.  Calves weighing from about mid 600-800 lbs. ...

    Pet Pieve

The thing is there are so many variables.  Rich, poor, age of kids, ranch/or no ranch, doing it as a business,  or just for the kids.  I showed as a kid (age 12-16) and absolutely loved it.  My Dad made me do all the work.  Bought cheap calves, raised a few.  I even remember hooking the trailer...

What are the joys of getting older?

Well... if you're into cattle I suppose it would be about 5 years, getting 'em paid for.  Think that's about the average.  (for us anyhow)  If you're lucky enough to pay cash for 'em then guess you're good to go pretty much!  The main good thing that comes with age.....EXPERIENCE!  Enjoy your...

    Stubborn Heifer

Kinda sounds like one we have this year.  Really sweet till you want to lead her.  VERY stubborn. Anyhow seems like not much time yet.  Been working with this one going on about 6 weeks. I got so angry a week or so ago I made the mistake of yelling, hitting her with the show stick, twisting he...

    Energetic American?

I know there's posts on here about the donkey thing...  we do have a jenny (with sheep) not real gentle, but tell me again do you just put a halter on them or a harness? tie the halter to that? We have a big ole heavy homemade chute my Dad made when I was a kid and ain't nothin turning it...

    Energetic American?

Son has a new steer this year, a american steer probably weights 700-750?  Maybe more.  When first got him got the halter on him and seemed pretty gentle. But now that has grown a bit has decided he doesn't much like the halter or to lead at all.  Runs like the dickens and show us who's boss...

    POWER FUEL

I need some opinions on this stuff... I've been told a couple of different things.  Since its pretty pricey just wondering how many of you swear by it? Do you feed it from day one... or do you feed 6-8 weeks out from show time?  Son's last year and he has lighter calves this time... weighing all...

    Where do you live?

We're in the "Heart of the Texas Cow Country!"  About an hour NW of Austin and about 12 miles from the mighty Colorado River... I'm with ya Jill on that 2 year caribbean vacation... just don't know who'll tend the herd?  No cheap labor available unlike what our government wants us to believe.

    Need Help Breaking

We've got a steer this year that well... just has that crazy wild eye look.  I could have lost my patience long ago, but just decided I didn't want to make him worse.  So it was hell and took a while... but finally in the small pen got the slide ring halter on him.  Let him drag it around for...

    Show Heifer Calving...

After the Austin Star of TX show we came home and let our our sons show heifer out on grass with the herd.  (1st place there and San Antonio, reserve overall Kerrville!) Thinking she'd maybe lose some weight, she has gotten huge! Domino is due to "domino" July 25.  I was wondering though some of...

    Steer Price

Depends on your County program... if you have a buyers sale and what the requirements are on that.  Also how competitive you want to be I guess.  Here in central TX the cattle market is better this year so depending on the weight of the steer it could bring close to $600-700 at the auction.  We...

    Central TX Steers & Heifers

We have a few nice steers and heifers ready to go. Here's a couple.  These are sired by Lauters Mellow Yellow. Had a 1st place Chi heifer last year off the ranch in both San Antonio and Austin, reserve overall in Kerrville. A 13th place AOB in Houston with a Paddy sired steer. Thanks

    COW QUESTION

We palpated our cows last week, and one of our best cows (had twins last year and our best prize heifer the year before) was not pregnant.  The guy that palpated her said he felt a cyst on her ovary (or uterus?) anyway... being old fashioned she's set to go to the sale block (had plenty of time...
