    BLOWIN' AND A KICKIN'

Our breeder we got him from said he was a Nov calf.  He's weighing I'd say around 750-800 lbs.  What size rope or type just a lariat type or any type?  Isn't that what they put on bulls to make em buck?  I should know this... duh!!

    BLOWIN' AND A KICKIN'

I was washing and blowing calves yesterday had the testy American tied in the big steel antique 'bull' chute.  All the calves did great but as expected the American didn't like the blowing on the legs.  I'll bet he kicked out more than 50 times.  I kept on and on till he finally sorta gave up...

That Knabe... although I don't always fully understand all your posts.... I do believe you're a WISE fellow.  My thinking exactly.

    mosque on hallowed ground

I am still haunted by the comments of a extremist Muslim leader I heard interviewed in the months following 911. To paraphrase what he said , was.... " we will win this war one birth at a time. We are in no hurry, but we will win. That is a certainty"   Bin Laden has made similar remarks.  The...

    bonding with new calves...?

Every calf is different.  Depending on your time and how soon you need them to be gentle can also vary.  Its better to take your time.  Its pretty simple, cattle like people have to warm up to you.  Some take longer than others.  (Had 2 this year like that).  But usually you can get the most...

    mosque on hallowed ground

If you've been watching and listening more and more protests in NY over the mosque.... I'm glad but we'll see if it makes any difference.  I'm amazed (on here) how many of you are so tolerant.  They call us ignorant... I want to know what happened to common sense? Here's another good youtube...

    mosque on hallowed ground

This is long... but personally i'm not sure if Obama isn't muslim and just lying about it?  I certainly hope not, but seems odd due to this and all his support of the mosque. In 1952 President  Truman established  one  day  a  year  as  a "National Day of Prayer."...

    mosque on hallowed ground

I remembered (since my last post) this email I got not long ago.  It goes along with most of what I have learned about the subject.  Pay attention to the chapter 3.... until I have absolute proof that all of this information is totally untrue... I am continuing to be intolerant! No one likes to...

    mosque on hallowed ground

I'm with SHORTIE on this one.  Ain't mine either...  This nice guy tolerance is why our country is going to Hell in a hand basket.  (IMO)  :'(

Favorite thing to do on a farm or ranch?

Hard to pick one thing... right now ready for cooler fall so I can truly enjoy more time out and about. Its pretty equal between feeding the catfish... checking the cows (especially new calves).... and sitting on the front porch watching the sheep in the pasture! Nothing like country living!

    SWEAT COLLARS

I wanted to ask some of you what you think about using sweat collars.  And how much help you think they do?  We used alot last year and not sure if helped much or not. We have a heifer that is really nice but pretty loose fronted and just don't know if it will do much good or not.  She's a Chi...

Makin' 'em fat and gettin' 'em to EAT

Yep been doing all the above... except the calf manna.  He's just really a slow picky eater.  Maybe when the hot weather breaks I hope he'll improve.  Thanks all. <cowboy>

Makin' 'em fat and gettin' 'em to EAT

Well its been so hot the past 2 weeks... sons American steer isn't eating much.  He's gotten so picky on his eating not sure what to do.  Had him eating with 2 other steers but never knew how much he was eating, now tying him in corner (next to his favorite heifer over the fence corner tub...

    Hats and Showing

I agree sweetheart... being a Mom of two boys personally I'm tired of all the bling and lacey sexy shirts the girls get to wear... and I'm thinking some of those judges are looking and pulling them before taking a good enough look at there steer!? :-\

    Cattle Investor Question

Golly guys... hope its not as bad as a few of you say it is... if so all these cattle people must all be independently wealthy and just like playing with cow manure!  (lol) Shoot its gotta make something don't know anything much these days that can make you rich overnight... unless you win the...

    Hats and Showing

When I was a kid showing in the 70's I remember my awesome County Agent... always wore his hat way back oh his head.  He was a gem of a man and helped all us kids with all his heart.  He totally believed part of being a good showman showing cattle required wearing a hat.  Cowboys/Cowgirls wear...

    Outrage

I think this quote sums it up.  Don't think he's done much of anything but work at and teach others how to get and spend other peoples money.  Is anyone not upset about the new Justice nominated this week? Or this mosque thing that sounds to me that the NY mayor is supporting (wonder if there's...

    Feeding corn cooked and dry?

How early is too early to start feeding corn (additional) to get a calf fat?  Have a american that seems like not getting there fast enough.  Worry about getting too tall... shows still months out (TX shows) so could you experienced (years feeders) offer some advise for my sons last year showing?

    Beet Pulp

Ok question... we fed it last year after we got the heifer and the steers almost there.  (holding them) But is there any reason to feed it prior to that?
