    aay cows

It seems to be a popular answer to any how should I breed'em question but again Dr. Who.  I've been breeding this way the last couple years and it just seems to click every time.

To fudge or not to fudge, that is the question!

This is a very interesting discussion.  In our years as purebred breeders we actually weighed every calf, any bull calf over 120 was cut at about 3 months.  I always felt that the build of the calf was as important, if not more so than actual bw.  We had more 110 plus calves born with fewer...

    Confused

Showed a heifer calf a few months back, the judge placed her 4th.  Before he was done commenting on her, he had gotten to a point of no return and said she'd have won the class if she had been a little bigger, it was funny to listen to as he just gushed talking about her.  Made it even more...

    Donkey Breaking

We used mules for 20 years to halter break bulls, used to halter break around 30 a year.  We'd stall tie them for 2 days then put them on the mule, usually about 5 hours a day for 1-3 days depending on attitude, we only ever had one that wouldn't halter break.  We also tried a donkey a couple...

    Stealing Justintime's idea....Is there such a thing...

Interesting thread, who's to say what is too much.  From my days in the purebred business and our environment there was too much milk, I live in an area where there are actually deserts that have more annual precipitation than we get, those heavy milking females just can't get enough to eat.  We...

    bulls

Be more helpful if you could give a breed.  I see your from Canada so I'll guess  that After Hours, Stout, and Cookie Monster are Limi bulls.  After Hours could add a little style,  but as I recall pretty much ended up being used mostly as a calving ease bull.  If the Stout you speak of is a...

    Rescue may be needed

Thanks, but I think we've got it solved.  That said -  "it ain't over til it's over".  Sometimes you just never get that good feeling about things.

    Rescue may be needed

Well I have a situation brewing and I thought I may turn to those on Steer Planet for some help. I bought a bred heifer in Iowa at the beginning of the month, as well as a cow.  They just made their way up to the border Tues. morning. The cow cleared and is now a Canadian resident.  However the...

Some things you may not have known....

JIT forgot one very important fact about Saskatchewan it is also home to the world record typical white tail deer- the Hansen Buck.  Which is actually not that  impressive when seen in person. Thanks for the description of what a "buckeye" is I've always wondered. Why is it also referred to as...

    Limi females

I have had real good luck with both purebred Limi's and LimFlex females.  Also am starting to have some good results going the other way, breeding these clubby females to Limi bulls.  The last two years my top selling calves have both been halfblood limi's.  I believe it also allows you to...

    pet peeves!

Definitely the lack of spelling and grammar on internet boards.(even myself at times) Parents who let their barely teenage, or teenage girls dress up like little street walkers. People obsessed with whitening their teeth, when your teeth are one of the things visible from the space shuttle their...

    big calves

Limi out of a angus cow 152lbs, the cow might weigh 1350 on a good day.  Had been out for the afternoon, checked before and didn't look to be anything coming.  Upon return go out to take a look and she just stood up from finishing the job,  he was completely dry from nose to navel and still wet...

    Asking Too Much??!!

The semen companies bring most of it up, the bulls have to pass all the same health requirements as if imported live and I believe spend a certain amount of time at stud.  You can import on your own by applying for an import permit, but it has to meet the same criteria as above.  As far as...

    Take a check?

Tell ya what I wouldn't drive six hours to give ya a bad check.  But thats me unfortunately some people will,  sometimes you gotta give people the benefit of the doubt in these dealings.

    Agribition

I'll assume when you say calves your talking steers, if not throw this out the window. There have been some other ND calves up the last two years at Agribition, the first year had a few glitches(mostly due to our national tracking system) but nothing to major.  I don't think he had to many...

    Asking Too Much??!!

I'm not sure if is totally based upon failing health testing, partially sure, but when you include the extra expense required for obtaining exportable semen most probably can't justify the extra expense.  I would doubt if there are more than 1000 doses of "clubby" semen sold in Canada every year...

Needed plans to build some stuff.

It'll take me a couple days to find 'em but some where I have all the measurements for a 7 foot stall divider, it's based off of the Sullivans divider.  Let me know if interested and I'll go hunting for them.
