    Recip contracts/programs

A big purebred operation 'round here has been contracting cows for their embryo's the last few years.  They are paying $1000/live, weaned calf.  They supply all the CIDRs and drugs to sync. Plus the last two years they also come insert and remove CIDRs and do the needling, I think they are doing...

    Jigsaw

Saw a few and went wow, so bred a few and went huh!!  Maybe I bred him wrong though, wouldn't use him on anything that is a little smaller framed.  They seem to be well made, but I'm not sure at this point if they are ever gonna get as big as I'd like.  The few I seen were outta angus cows...

    Gigolo Joe on ?

Has he been working on Strictly Business daughters?  She's a got enough stoutness, guts and decent enough front ended, maybe could use a shot more bone and the legs cleaned up a bit.  How bout on Dr.Who's, that may be a bit on the smallish side- is he gonna throw a little more frame score on his...

    SCURS

While purely anecdotal it has always seemed to me that using scurred bulls on horned cow gave us as high or maybe slightly higher percentage of polled calves as compared to using non-homozygous smooth polled bulls.  In particular one scurred bull we used years ago, one of the first polled bulls...

Cow with Sores in Mouth-What is it?

Not sure if its something you have in your part of the world but could it be from leafy spurge?  I haven't seen any but I know it does cause sores in the mouth.

    The Show Circuit

So as I sat and perused the latest issue of the Show Circuit, a thought struck me - does anyone else subscribe so they can "read the articles"!!  Not unlike a famous mens magazine!!

    keeping records

orwell, your record keeping sounds like mine was, until I started to realize I couldn't keep every cows pedigree straight in my head.  And having to look back through several years of calving records to find it out was becoming a little tedious.  So a couple years ago I started using a program...

    Apollo ?

Curious as to what any one may know about Hanewich's Apollo bull.  I just can't seem to decide if I like him or not.  I look at the pedigree and the TH and PHA free and think yes, then at his pic and say I don't know.  Anybody seen calves or have any?

    Opinions on this heifer

Well I'll venture a guess on what goes with the "livestock expo"  several of the shows up here have a prospect show and sale.  They are not usually all that detailed with pedigree.  As well not all come with much of one,  there are only a handful of serious clubby breeders up north.  Probably...

    Red Angus bull

LOL,  I think I had a calf with Count Choculitis a  couple years ago,  sure wish I knew more about indentifiying that one!!!

    DOCTOR WHO

I've tried him on several different types and he seems to work well on just about anything.  I really like him on AAY daughters.  Also has worked well on some pretty heavy Chi influenced females, Maine females as well.  Maybe I'm just caught up in fandom, but he just seems to be very consistent...

wedding crasher calf pic and questions

Near as I can figure he would be about a half angus.  The Coach bull is registered as a 50%,  his dam looks to be just around that as well.

    DOCTOR WHO

Probably not the best choice for heifers.  Used him a couple years ago on some,  had to help a couple, not that heavy a calves but they are usually pretty chunky made.  Its that square peg- round hole thing more than the weight IMHO.

Status of Who Made Who and other prominent steer bulls? Dead or alive.

Was told a couple months ago that Heatwave was down in Texas still trying to pump him for more.

    SP Brand Board?

Tony, you make a good point about location and for my province I'm the only guy that can have that brand in that location.  I had tried to register the same brand as my father and grandfather, it was a left hip brand, but it had already been registered for every other spot, except for a right...

    Looking for Semen(Canadian)

Thanks, haven't got an ABS catalog yet.  Last time I tried to get some was told it was all sold out, but I believe that was through Semex.  Maybe  I've been missing the boat and ABS had him the whole time.  And yes I know our availability really is terrible.  I often wondered if someone that...

    Looking for Semen(Canadian)

Any of my fellow Canadians on here happen to have or know where I could get my hands on a couple straws of All About You semen.  Its been off the market for a few years but someone must have a some sitting around.  I've got a cow that's just begging to be bred AAY one more time.

    Simmental Bulls

stithka,  I wouldn't recommend Hustler,  used a little of him and while the calves were okay, they weren't really clubby types.  They are just a little on the plain side, not that great for hair and they were a little dirty fronted, good feeder types just not that showy.  Now I've had a few...

    SP Brand Board?

Mines a P over Y hot iron brand on the Left shoulder.  Its an adaption of my Great Grandfathers brand that was  a PY.  And yes all the steers I sell get this brand.  I feel it is a good form of advertising,  its taken a few years but people have begun to recognize and attach this brand to  my...
