    Winning at any Cost?

Good post JIT. I too am in the category of the young couple you speak of. I am a hobby Shorthorn breeder. If it were not for my wife and I having our off farm jobs, we wouldn't be farming. Twenty one years ago I approached my father wanting to buy the farm I am now on. His response to me was "...

Fittin the world one calf at a time. The look back at it all!!!!

Enjoyed all of the posts on this topic and couldn't agree more.....lol. Same attitude up in Canada. Most kids up here would be lost if you handed them a pair of sheep heads walked away or took the glue cans and replaced them with wax or saddle soap. Better yet. Give them a can of 3M #77 and...

What to breed my really chubby Red Angus too??

When you say you don't want blacks I'm presuming All black. I have an awesome clubby type Specky bull I'm sending to be drawn this spring, but that will be too late for this year. He's a end of March calf and was Reserve Calf Champ at Agribition. I already have interest for semen by a RA herd in...

    Feed storage

We've been getting our ration in totes. That is changing shortly. While at Agribition one booth that intrigued me was for hoppers that flow down into an are at the bottom with a flip up lid to pail out grain. As my wife is feeding the grain and constantly increasing the volume she's getting sick...

    Coyotes again

If you want to get rid of your coyotes, soak  steel pot scrubbers ( used to be refferred to as a Curly Kate ) in bacon grease. Scatter them out where the coyotes are frequently seen and in a few days they will die off......Can't pass the scrubber without tearing their insides out. Another trick...

    oklahoma snow/ice storm

Hope everyone gets through this OK. We get this crap all the time and are probably able to deal with it better cause we just expect it and are climatized to it. This is the first year in my life that we haven't lost ears on our January calves.....Two more in the barn to calve this morning and...

    Shorthorn Embryo's

Cowcrazy------If you're looking to strengthen the herd you may want to get in touch with uluru. He's put together an excellent group of donours and most of these pedigrees will be  a total outcross to anything you'll see state side. He's a stand up guy who will do you right.

    I have a serious problem.

Not just the young folks have this addiction. I once had a girlfriend tried telling me I wasn't going to fit cattle anymore.......I was single for 4 years after givin her the wave. Thankfully I found a woman who after only one summer and fall around shows has been bitten by the bug and is...

    Fitting red cattle

Sure do agree with Badger. Been fitting since I was a kid and beleive me that was a long time ago. Nice to see that you've got your game on and getting a good match before it's too late. Head on down to Home Depot or Lowes and match it up from their collection of sprays. Now that I'm doing alot...

    Opinions on Shorthorn Cow

You may want to check out Matlock Shorthorns website. They have a bull they're using and having great success with. They are thinking of sending him to stud and selling semen shares.      Six S Panther. I bought they're heifer calf at CWA this past fall (you'll see her on there as well). A...

If you won a 5 million lottery prize.

I agree with JIT. I'd be stayin' right here and doing what I love. Raising Shorthorns and Speckle Parks. My hat's off to you JIT. My father had a saying also, " the empty barrel makes the most noise" . Ignore it and it'll go away.

    Part 2 Blizzard

Hey guys, I'll trade you weather. Here in Eastern Ontario we had freezing rain yesterday  evening, turned to rain over night and rained all day. Weatherman says it's freezing over night. We'll probably get dumped on with the snow you guys got tomorrow. All in all, JIT is right I'll take it over mud.
