Do you agree or disagree with this?

In Australia there are a couple of herds trying to develop cattle better suited to their northern environment but still have eating quality and grade MSA. Yamburgan uses Santas in their Durham Tropicals And The Grove and Marellan are using Senepol. Here are links to their websites .Two sires at...

    Loving farm sale

Have done the last 8 years, with mature weight discussed on every bull or cow on here would be surprised if more don't. Nice line of bulls, from photos like 12 Would the ultrasound have been done some time as yearling weight and what would be considered high IMF % at those weights.

    Winalot

Imf is becoming a more important trait. I would think in general Canadian shorthorns marble pretty good and was lost somewhat in the Australian shorthorns in the 90's 00's when growth and lean meat where the focus. In Kookaburras case he has some marbling on both sides of the pedigree but what...

    Winalot

I also found this Weebollabolla bull. My Parents visited there in August and they still held him in high regard with many decedents still in the herd. He's a Goes back to SFA origins but all his immediate pedigree is Australian.

    Winalot

Finding full Australian pedigrees in the recent sires is a challenge but in some of the older genetics it is easier. They just don't have photos. Here is Weebollabolla Turbo and Prince. Turbo is 15/16th Australian but I haven't looked back further.  Prince doesn't have a full pedigree but is...

    Webollabolla Theodore

Theodores strength is that he adds fat cover. His epd is +3 and going back a few years breed average was approaching -2, its now -.5 and Theodore is a major reason for this. For grass finishing many of the shorthorns had got way to lean. His spread of BWT to growth and calving ease is also good...

An interesting Shorthorn bull in Ireland

I would think its Weebollabolla. Heres a link to there history from there website http://www.weebollabolla.com.au/history.html Think its remarkable the similarity between the photo of the old red roan bull and the look of some of their modern sires. Also some interesting comments about the...

    EPD reliability

http://shorthornbeef.com.au/about/durham-research-development/understanding-ebvs-selection-indexes-and-accuracy/ At the bottom of this link gives a indication of the data required for different accuracy %. Realise its a different country but would be about the same. .35 is mid parent no data...

    Canada vs U.S. Shorthorn purity

But shorthorns in Australia are divided in three Societies and possibly more herdbooks. I know the Beef shorthorn society has two herd books and 2or 3 years ago some breeders split from the shorthorn beef society including Weebollabolla and The Grove to form Performance herds of Australia.

    Fullblood Simmental Project

    Shadybrook Sale and Qantas calf

Very strong sale and great looking line of females. Amazes me how some operations can keep having these female sales and maintain a herd. There Vet bills must be impressive with the amount of ET work but guess they are reaping the rewards. Which lot was purchased for Australia?

“New” North American Shorthorn Genetic Evaluation

I just checked several dozen of his offspring and most are in the mid 80's to mid 90's with a couple way over that. And there  are probably a few lighter. Looks like his data is a bell shaped curve as you'd expect from any measurable trait. I wonder what the data looks like out of some...

“New” North American Shorthorn Genetic Evaluation

Epd's are an attempt to eliminate the effects of environment and type of cows and non genetic factors when evaluating an animals performance and Saskvalley Navaho is a perfect example. He himself had a 114 bw but the genes he is passing on are about breed average with I would think a reasonable...

    Bulls

Very nice looking cattle. The white bull looks great what are his Epd's. Red bull calf from a white bull? or is there some roan in there. Not sure I totally understand what the graphs are showing. How would something like the lowline/highline angus look. Points in the same area because they...
