I would suggest conditioning the skin, after ya'll have slicked him, with REVIVE and rubbing it in generously over a period of several days before the show...or you may choose to use hair conditioner...MANE & TAIL seems to work just as well...Conditioned skin on slicked calves is often...

In our county, exhibitors are allowed to sell only one (1) animal in the  Livestock Premium Auction, unless that exhibitor exhibits multiple grand or reserve grand champions in the Market divisions. All grand champion and reserve grand champion markets animals automatically make the Premium Auction.

I prefer slick shear shows simply because what you see is what you get...the animal is judged phenotypically...carcass merit...you cannot eat hair...granted clipping is an art & a skill....our slick shows start late January, however, some of the haired calves we feed are clipped for prospect...

Lost a calf recently...shocked by bare wire touching pipe pens...dunno if it was electrocuted or went in to cardiac arrest from the shock...cattle panel burned into its forehead and muzzle as if it was branded...

Juan will do a great job...He likes a complete calf that is sound, thick, and has a look to him...Don't present him calves with structure problems...they do not have to be "meatwagons" but must have some product..He will sort through your calves fairly and work through them well. The good ones...
