    Three heifers - opinions please

Personally, I'll give up power in lieu of femininity on a breeding heifer every day of the week and twice on Sunday's. In the words of a late, great cattleman, it takes a masculine bull to produce a feminine heifer and a feminine heifer to produce a masculine bull.

    loose stools

Sustain III is a sulfur bolus. You can give him neomycin, or a sulfamethazole product if the boluses scare you too bad. I've actually had better luck with those in scours, and save the boluses for foot rot.

    Heifer Push Diet

Wow. I don't have any experience with fitters edge or Precon, but 27 lbs a day seems like a lot of feed for a yearling heifer weighing under 1000 lbs. I'm assuming this is a breeding heifer and not a market heifer. If that is the case, I would back her off to around 1.5% of her body weight. You...

    Too much belly

A picture would help, but no I don't think a heifer can have too much belly unless she has a potbelly and looks like an orphan.

    Homemade Cooler Room

What did it cost per month to run a setup like that, and what were ambient daytime temperatures during the period you were running the cooler?

    Young Heifer Pregant

Watch her really close and calve her out. It can be successfully done, but be prepared for the worst.

    Help. Steer not gaining.

A steer doesn't eat 30 lbs of feed a day and not gain weight. I suspect this is a case of less fill on the last day you weighed him. If he drank just 5 gallons of water less that day, there is roughly 40 pounds. That would put his gain at 65 pounds in a 21 day period. If he's still eating 30...

    Steer weight???

I'm so glad we don't have to actually weigh our steers in anymore. It's way easier just turning their weights in and just staying within the 5% range.

Making a steer wider through the back

I'm not sure what you mean by "making him wider through the back," but it's time to get him on full feed and push him on. Depending on when your show is, you have roughly 180 days left. If he gains three pounds a day, that will make him weigh 1340 come show time. Some of these clubby cattle will...

    A few bull pics

    That bedrock bull is special.

    Finish for my steer

A rumen bypass fat would also be helpful in adding cover. But it really needs to be fed at least 30 days. Longer is better.

    ? about feeding corn fodder

I don't know what it is about corn stalks, but our cows ate it 2 to 1 to the grass hay. But like you said, you will need a protein supplement to keep the cows in shape and to help them digest all the roughage. I don't like the protein tubs because most are filled with non protein...

    Cooler or no cooler?

A cooler doesn't help grow hair because it keeps the temperature lower. A cooler helps to grow hair because you completely control the amount of light an animal is exposed to. When an animal is exposed to less light it triggers a response in the brain to grow hair because they think it is...

    Proper amount of grain

I don't know much about the feeds you are feeding, but 12 pounds is a decent amount for heifers that age. If they are still hungry, make sure they get all the hay they want in addition to the feed you are giving them. Pictures would be helpful so that we could determine if the heifers are behind...

She is a crossover daughter out of a cow that I raised that goes back to target and transformer.

    Brangus heifer I raised

Thanks for the kind words. I think she's really special and could be one of the best ones I've raised in at least 20 years. I'm really looking forward to my kids showing her the next two years.

    Brangus heifer I raised

I know this sight is more geared to northern type cattle and club calf genetics, but I just wanted to get everyone's thoughts on thi Brangus heifer that I rasied. She is a January 2015 heifer. In this picture she had been weaned off the cow for about two weeks.

    Trailer tires

All we run are the 14 ply tires. Prepare to never have a flat again. The trade off you are going to make though, is that the tread life will be shorter. We run our trailers nearly every day though.

    Fence height?

+1 cbcr. That's what we do. With an 8 foot cedar every 30'. Two steel posts between that, then a cedar deuce between everything. We end up with a post every 5 feet. Makes a pretty tight fence.
