    Spring of rib

We have a beautiful heifer that has plenty of depth and moves like a cat but she need a little more spring of rib. We were told by a show friend to feed a case of beer a week. What is everyone's thoughts on this? We tried to add two cans to their feed tonight but they didn't like the smell. Will...

Is she worth the work? Opinions

We decided to show the heifer and we did quite well first show. She was second in class and many people said she should have won the class but I was okay with second as she did not eat well at the show but her hair is coming along nice and it is sure great to say we have a nice home raised calf...

Is she worth the work? Opinions

Heifer bred with Game Changer 11 days ago excited to see how she develops as she is farther along. Hair is coming along. She gets worked with daily. Wish her hair would stay popping longer but it seems like after walking in the eve her hair goes flat after about 1/2 hour. I guess it will get...

    Show feed question

Rowe 49 feeds are not available in our area. Not a lot of beef in our area so we are at the mercy of Purina and Form-A-Feeds and you pay the price. That's why we do the Grand 4T Fyer so we can use our own corn an oats. Helps cut the cost. Forgot to check feeder this morn to see if any are just...

    Show feed question

Maybe I should clarify. Our Grand 4T-Fyer is mixed with our own corn, oats, mineral, and a little sweet lick. It is not a complete bagged ration. We are guessing the protein level to be 16 to 18%. We fed the Precon last year and our calves look pretty good but we have some superb show quality...

    Show feed question

We have some young calves born in late March that we have started on creep feed.  We are actually using Purina Grand 4-T Fyer which is probably a little strong and one of our feed reps suggested to throw some Power Fuel in with the feed but the calves are eating very little of it and they have...

    Breeding Suggestions

Need some suggestions on what to breed our heifer to.  She is a Broker x Texas Hold Em(Habegers) x Dream On.  We would like to clean up the front of her a bit and our main goal is to hope if we were to get a heifer calf that it would be a good milker.  We would like to use at least a percentage...

Is she worth the work? Opinions

Thanks for the opinions. I know this is not a good pic as I was kneeling on the ground with my phone and took the pic and I know the neck clipping job looks bad as my youngest daughter is learning to clip but this may give you a better idea. More opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Is she worth the work? Opinions

This heifer weighs all of 900 lbs. There are times when she may appear weak if she is too stretched out but I am not sure what you mean by weak in the hind quarter. I am open to opinions and glad you said this but I will tell you she has a big booty (butt). I will tell you I am not a fan of high...

    Heifer Weights

We have a Broker heifer that we will be showing this summer and possibly at our state fair.  I just posted a pic of her today on another thread but I am curious if anyone ever weighs there heifers.  I think our heifer could stand to gain a few pounds but I think she just needs a little more...

Is she worth the work? Opinions

This is a picture of our Feb 28, 2015 Broker heifer. It is my daughters first state fair eligible year and we are trying to decide if she is worth the trip or if we should take a nice prospect heifer. Unfortunately in MN 3/4 blood is still Foundation Simmi and the class is big and brutal. I know...

    Stock Broker

We had twin Stockbroker heifer calves in March and they are doing great.  One was about 80 pounds and the other 65.  We are very happy with these calves.  They seem to have a lot more style than mother so far. They came out of a cow my daughter won through the Minnesota Beef Expo Youth Beef...

    Mixing My Own Feed

We are in MN and we pay about $19 a bag for 4T-Fyer.  We use a little oats and either beet pulp or cottonseed hulls in our ration along with what the other recipe stated.

    Cow type for MAB

I wish I had a good picture but last Summer we used MAB on two plainer made but deep bodied big brute cows one was Sim-Angus and was a BC Lookout daughter and the other just a Sim-Angus with a bit of Hereford way down in the bloodlines.  We have a beautiful heifer calf and a beautiful bull calf...

    Simmi bull Hammer

What is her Dam side?  She looks nice.  We have a Broker calf we will be showing this year.  She is a February 25 and we thought she was big but now I dont think so.  How much do you think your heifer weighs? Our Hammer calf is quite small but it is a late spring.  It has nice body shape but not...
