    Preg palpitation training

I went to the Graham School this summer. Its was so worth the money. Spend half the day in class and 1/2 out at the farm. 1st day is feeling parts, next 3 are spent preg checking  at different times of gestation, then the last day we learned to pass an insemination rod. Having a growing herd, I...

    Shaving Cream on Legs?

So y'all have sparked my interest in this. How exactly do you use it? Do you wash them first and get them dry, then apply the shaving cream, comb/brush it in the direction you want and then blow it in, or just leave it after you brush it?  Thanks for posting this topic! :)

    Would do you charge?

I'm just starting to AI and some of my local farmers are interested in me AIing their cows. Our fair ends tomorrow and one of the exhibitors wants me to AI her heifer for her. I'm planning on bringing her home with my heifers and taking care of her until I'm done breeding her. I was just...

    Thriller Calves

I took a heifer calf to our county fair this week and the first the the judge pointed out about her was her depth of rib. Her momma is a moderate size cow out of JPJ though. Really liked this calf so I'm excited to see what we'll get next calving season. (I think they get better with age.)

Wondering what to breed my shorthorn/Simmental cross with?

Would just like to start out saying she is a gorgeous cow. From the pictures it looks like she continued to get better for you. You said you could never get her AI'd as a virgin heifer. Was she cystic? Remember that it is the most difficult to get a 1st calver bred back than a virgin heifer or...

    AI school

You really do learn alot and they really take the time to make sure you understand everything they are teaching. I've been around cattle all my life and was amazed at all of the things I learned and was able to manage my herd MUCH better! It was also nice to meet people from all over the country...

    AI school

I went to Graham School in Kansas this past June. It was amazing! Its a week long and they also teach preg checking and cattle herd practices, how to deal with different birthing situations, etc. Definitely worth the time and money!

    Thought I'd brag a little

This is the I-80 I posted after the VCCP in January that we raised. He won his county fair this week! He's out of a JPJ heifer and weighed 1370#. Also had a breed champion that was an I-80 out of a Milkman heifer. Then had 2 in the Montgomery County, MD fair. A Gucci steer out of a Black Pearl...

    should we call the vet?

What was the sire of the calf? Glad to hear baby and momma are doing well.

which two heifers would you keep? New pics of 2 and 3 and parentage

I would have to agree with "jamiediamond" 2 and 3 were definitely my picks. What's the bredding behind these calves? Using a calving ease sire will help with your BW concerns, but knowing the breeding and pelvic measurement will be greatly beneficial. I usually look back at the heifer's dam...

    Looking for prospect steers

I would try the Marky Butler Invitational Private Treaty Sale the first weekend in October in Maryland. He consigns good ones from VA, WV, and MD and starting bid is $1200. We are putting our best two in it. A Gucci steer which can be registered Mainetainer and a Bodacious steer that is marked...

    Mercedes Benz

This is a pic from June 16th at Hawkeye. Sorry its not the best. I've seen some nice calves from him this year. There were in the 70 -80 pound range out of Simmi X cows and heifers. One was out of a blue roan Vegas cow and she was very nice! Hope this helps :)
