    Tiny Tim calf

These are our Tiny Tim's.  I couldn't get very good pictures of the steer, but he is almost a year old and he is weighing 900lbs.  His bw was 84 lbs.  The second picture is a heifer.  BW 85 lbs.  She is not quite a week old in the picture.

    Can they grow too fast?

I will assume you mean 2011?  If so we had the same problem last year.  At our county weigh in our big steer weighed in at 1095lbs and was like 54 or 55" at the hip and he didn't do real well at our county show because we didn't/couldn't get him finished to where he needed to be to compete. ...

    Need Calf Help

BS you are the only one who said what I was thinking.  She isn't a calf from our area her mother just came in on a truck from Nevada where she was a range cow, a skinny, skinny range cow.  We are not a Se deficient area, but Nevada might be??.  We did give her E and B12 yesterday.  I really...

    Need Calf Help

Ok all you smarties out there I need an opinion on a new orphan calf we purchased for my daughter for a peewee 4-H deal.  I think I know what I need to do, but I would like your opinion.  Ok here goes....the calf is approx two days old and her legs are so weak she cannot stand up for more than a...

    Tiny Tim calf

We have two Tiny Tim's.  Both in mid 80's for birthweight.  We typically have pretty big calves, so 80's for us is good.  Both are nice calves.

    Aborted calf?

We had a heifer abort twins about 43 days out from her due date.  This was the first time it had happened to us, but it sounds pretty common.  Same end result and even though it must be pretty common it is still a bummer.

    GVC Maverick o5u

Thank you.  So could we  :) She could use a bit more power when you get behind her, but she sure profiles nice.  She is getting ready to have her first calf in a month or so.

    Pelvic measuring cows

I just thought I would add...... Firstly I believe BS when he says "anyone can do it"  it isn't rocket science, however we had two different cattle vets give us the measurements on the same group of heifers and they were significantly different.  So much so that I would have pitched that group...

    tyson on heifers

The only calf I have ever had to pull out of this one particular cow was a Tyson calf.  This cow was six years old at the time.  Fluke?  Maybe, but I would have to say no to your question.  I would not use him on heifers.

    Ringworm Question

It has been my experience that you can get it more than once.  My daughter caught it from our cattle last summer and had it for months before her immune system was finally able to really kick it.  Of course we used all the creams and stuff they tell you to use, and I think that helps to a point...

    Aborted fetus pics

Wow things like this are always a little hard to look at, at first, but really neat to be able to see and document something like this.  We just lost a set of twins that were about 240 days along and they looked much more mature than this little guy.  They had full fair and looked like a regular...

    How to AI?

It is my experience that: Yes, typically when they stand without walking away they are in what they call "standing heat".....hence the word "standing".  What you have to remember when heat detecting is that not all cows and/or heifers exhibit the same signs.  You need to be looking for abnormal...

    How to AI?

We have a small herd of cattle and we have had our cows AI'd for seven years now.  We called our local ABS rep and he has done the rest.  He will bring you a book, you choose a bull, you call him with your order and then you watch for your cows to come into heat.  When your cows come into heat...

    BULLS AT STUD

ShowSteaks, don't laugh when I ask, but how was Tiny Tim?  I have heard he is the size of a goat?  We have a calf that we really like out of him, but we used him on a real framey heifer and it seemed to work.  Any info is appreciated.  Thank you.

    Just For Fun...

Simmgal, I have thought about those things because we do have a few plants in our part of the world that can really do a number on them.  Weather, but it has been so mild.  Nutritional deficiency, she just doesn't fit the bill.  Just a mystery.  Thank you for the info though and as the saying...

    Just For Fun...

We received an interesting Christmas present this year.  We had a heifer that was about 240 days pregnant and she calved a set of twin bull calves.  Of course they didn't live, so that part is pretty sad, but that was our first set of twins and how ironic that it was on Christmas day of all...

    Need breeding advice...

even if he isn't suitable... that's the difference b/w no calf, and a calf... ....very true!  Guess I should have been more clear as to what my standards of "suitable" were.... meaning anything that will get the job done. :)

    Need breeding advice...

I am going with BS on this one.  Put her with a bull if you can find anything suitable, because as I am sure you are aware the difference between AI'ing and natural service is a few million live sperm cells and billions of live sperm cells. Best of luck.  We had a sweet little Shorthorn heifer...
