    Jesse James & I80 bulls

I think you might still be talking about Tiny Tim in your post here, so if you are I will attempt to answer you.  Our steer finished at 1350 and both of our yearling heifers are over 900 lbs at this point.  Like any other bull I just think it depends on what kind of cow you use him on.  Our cows...

    Jesse James & I80 bulls

He has been for us. Also, if you do a search on here there are other folks that have had consistent results with him.

    Jesse James & I80 bulls

These are a couple pictures I was able to round up.  The calves are a few days old in the pictures.  The one with the white socks is the steer that won our county show and the other is one of the heifers.  I would agree with Gargan when he says I-80 has more show success.  He is definitely one...

    Jesse James & I80 bulls

I know you didn't mention Tiny Tim, but we have really liked our calves out of him.  They are sound, consistent, easy doing, cattle.  They have also been some of the smallest calves we have ever had even when compared to a calving ease Angus sire.  Might keep him in mind if he is something that...

    Sick calves..Help!

Well darn.  I was thinking maybe you were having trouble with C& D and maybe someone else will chime in here, but it sure doesn't sound like it.  Well I am not sure what to tell you other than good luck and stay on top of it, as it sounds like you are.  Hopefully your vet can give you some...

    Sick calves..Help!

It may help to have a little more info.  How old are the calves?  What are your weather and ground conditions?  Have you given the healthy calves any injections at birth? etc.  Any info you can think of.  Sorry for your troubles.

    Warts

We have had very good luck with the ripping off process.  Yes, I probably would be very careful with any treatment around the eye including the rip off method and especially an acid that EATS THE WARTS OFF.

    Carpe Diem Calf

Thanks Idaho.  I would really love to see your cow as I believe it would help me in my decision.  I hope you resolve your milking issue from your other post.  If that cow can't raise a calf she will make a good hamburger ;)

    Warts

If it is a single wart, which yours doesn't sound like it is, you can rip a single wart off it will bleed and then usually you are good to go.  However, if it is the cauliflower, or cluster kind of warts I really don't know the best way to treat them.  We had a steer that got the cluster kind in...

    ideal cow

Nice cows guys.  I would love to have either one of them.  I always believed that Angus cattle were kinda blah and scrawny myself until I went to a Yardley sale and that made a believer out of me.  Frostback, your cow is also proof that beautiful Angus cattle are out there.

    Carpe Diem Calf

idahoag, I really like that calf.  Do you have a full picture of the cow and the cow's breeding?  I am still contemplating my breeding decisions for 2013 and after seeing this little lady I am considering Carpe Diem.

    retain placenta

I am not sure why I am commenting other than the curiosity is killing me, but why do we think this cow has a retained placenta?  Is the placenta protruding from the cow, or???  We had a heifer that calved 80+ days early last year and she had retained placenta for the better part of two weeks. ...

    NEED HELP new calf sick

Leanbeef, you always give such good advice.  Ditto everything leanbeef said.  I have always been told when in doubt take their temp.  It is easy and it gives you an idea of what your dealing with.  Calves also love to lay out and soak up the sun they will get hot and pant because of this as well.

    Glucosamine/MSM overdose?

You might try looking at the supplements made specifically for cattle and see if it gives you a milligram and then apply that to whatever supplement you decide to use.  I personally hate feeding supplements or anything not labeled for animal use.  We put so much time and $$ into these critters...

    first calf heifers

My sons cow is a vag prolapse'er (i know that isn't a word so no one brow beat me for not spell checking) and she is young, so it really worries me that she will not be around real long.  The prolapse always replaces itself when she stands, and it isn't super extreme to where it is lying on the...

    Itchy Calf

If you are warm enough that you can rinse the calf I would do that and be sure to condition either with a leave in, a rinse out, or both.  Then brush and blow.  Do that as often as you can get that dead hair out and moisturize that hide and it will help.  Ours are doing the same thing.  If you...

    AAOK feeding program

Harley, a while back I asked a question on here about feeding heifers and AAOK responded to that post and said yes it does work.  If you do a search for it I bet you can find the thread pretty easy as it was only maybe three weeks ago.  Search for heifer feed or something along those lines.

    dehorning older calf

Dozer, we had the same thing happen to our son's 4-H steer last year except he was a year old at the time.  We had a local vet come out and do the procedure.  It was really simple and in no time you couldn't even tell anything had happened.  I would do it now as we don't have a fly problem...

    first calf heifers

I think this is brought up just about every season.  Everyone has a different opinion, but I wouldn't be worried at all at this point and I would let nature take it's course.  If at seven days they haven't calved call your vet and get professional advice.  Our vet is very, very cautious when it...
