    Barstow Cash Semen

I have not been able to find "Cash" from a distributor, but I did get my Krebs Ranch semen catalog today and it is listed as available from their ranch.  Give them a call.

    Flush Option for Angus Cow?

I am not sure he is available in Canada, but if you are chasing numbers then consider QUAKER HILL RAMPAGE 0A36.  Sexed semen is available.  A lot of growth with great maternal numbers.  I have used QH sires in the past and have always been pleased with the calves.

    Me vs. Trausch Farms

This will only work if they don't sue the accuser first for libel or unfair credit practices.  It is against the law to publish credit worthiness or publicly comment on a person's credit without their consent unless its in the official public arena.  I know of at least two livestock promoters /...

Opinions on flushing a 20 year old cow

You have not mentioned your location.  If you are serious, I would contact Dave Faber or Mark Johnson at TransOva in Sioux Center (no other Transova location) to discuss the cow.  20 years or so I when I visited the original location Mark was telling me how they harvested the ovaries from Power...

Sounds like you will use ABS.  You can't go wrong with Hoover Dam.  You may also want to consider SAV Brilliance.

    retaining flushes

I concur with BTDT 100%. Retained anything makes for bad business relationships.  Why would anyone pay good money to raise someone's future donor.  Many will place conditions such as at least 6 #1 eggs, or two flushes or ???.  Same goes for cloning rights.  I will walk each time, regardless how...

    low birth weight bull choice

A mini baldy heifer??  Don't shoot for the moon on her first calf.  Breed her to a Lowline, Dexter, Jersey or Long Horn for a first calf.  Your goal should be a live calf and healthy second calf cow.  If you absolutely need a clubby bull, possibly Lautner's Lowrider.  Save the heifer for her...

    The heifer that nobody wanted

This thread gets me to thinking.  Both of the heifers are the kind that I could use a couple of ways, but were they priced wrong?  How were they priced?

    How big is to big

Packers are market driven.  With record high ground beef, low numbers, and lower corn prices feed lots feeding longer and packers are willing to bid on the larger animals to meet their demand.  For me, I like a 1250, but the 13 weights are reasonable.

Cattle prices - Your area and Predictions

Here are today's results from my local sale barn.  Every week they seem to set a new high price record.  I am hopeful that these prices will remain.  Be mindful, this is a LOCAL sale barn in NE Iowa miles from any large feed lot or packing plant.  I believe prices will remain high as long as...

How do you decide to make him a steer or leave him a bull?

I am not sure I agree completely.  A breeder must remember that a bull only contributes DNA to their offspring.  All other cell components are derived from the dam.  On a population basis (whole herd), bulls contribute more, but on an individual basis (single animal) cows contribute more...

    Stubborn Steer

When he stops and you are pulling on the halter, have someone walk closely towards and past you from front to back.  Once he moves forward let up the pressure and lead him to another part of the pen.  Repeat, repeat, repeat.  Cattle will naturally walk forward (past the advancing person) and he...

    Cattle prices wow!

VC, good point.  Today I saw premium bacon selling for over $10/lb.  I did not see anyone buying that, but they were buying the $5/lb bacon.  I can live with the markets just fine the way they are, especially with corn under $4 and sinking hay prices in my area. Last week I was able to purchase...

    Cattle prices wow!

I don't shop the beef case too often, but I noticed this today and I was blown away at the $11.98/lb. retail price of ribeye steaks.  To my amazement I saw consumers buying them, most likely because it was marked as on "special."  Talk about sticker shock and amazement at the same time.  The...
