    Rocky Balboa steer

A little time on a bulkier show type feed n that flank will look alot deeper.  At that price you're only cpl hundred over graded feeder price...If you can't sell him for that then there's something wrong with the world today.

Thoughts on a maternal mating with this donor cow!

Limestone Trifecta comes to mind as a pure Simmi momma maker bull.  I've seen a few of his calves this fall out of An and An x MA cows and they all had the maternal look.  Deep bodied, lots of spring of rib cage and good structureed.  You may also want to take a look at...

Blog updates - new topics - pasture prospect

I don't know much about blogs, but is there any way you can do something with the photos to increase size.  Or maybe take them closer.  I can't see a thing on them and when i click on them to enlarge they still come up same size.  JMO

    starting out

Good cows for 2 reasons.  1. You already know they can breed and have a calf and raise it for you.  All those risks are there if you go with heifers.  2.  The offspring of the cows can show you what worked with them or often times didn't work so breeding choices may be easier to decide.  As far...

    Simmi/Clubby bulls

Here are a few that may be of interest to you and provide what you are looking for http://www.whiteroostercattle.com/sires.html    Also don't overlook Grizzly and Meyer 735.  Any of these will give you calves that are make good mammas which I'm guessing is what you're after.  The steer calves...

    Cooler

If your old milkhouse was anything like our old milkhouse( cement block walls with a cement floorand a so so drop ceiling) your R factor for insulation is next to zero.  The walk in cooler shell should be a great improvement over what your using now.

    ACEPROMAZINE

You can also shoot it straight in her nostril.  We use a tip from a nasalgen doser.  It works quicker than the oral way.

    Clipper Blades

I'm guessing these are the Andis style blades.  Get them resharpened.  Almost all show supply dealers can sharpen them or send them to Sullivans.  Only cost a couple bucks a set.

    Opinion of Simmi Steer

First off your pics are actually pretty good compared to alot on here.  Secondly so is your steer.  (clapping)  He may be a little straight on back legs but still looks sound enough.  Are you soaking the beet pulp before feeding it?  We usually soak it over night if we can, they seem to eat it...

    Semen Tank Question

There's no way to tell for certain until you charge.  As long as it doesn't have any obvious damage to it put some nitrogen in see what happens. I've seen some pretty old tanks still working just fine

    Show steer numbers (poll)

When i finshed showing as youth 20 yrs or so ago we had 129 steers, roughly 150 pigs and 120 lambs( goats hadn't started then).  Overr the next 10-12 yrs the steers dropped into mid 50's while the hogs went to 400+ and lambs and  goats held in 120-130 when they let goats in. this year we have 92...
