    portable cattle scales

Looking to buy some portable load bar scales and just wondered who makes the best for the money. I'll probably get a set of load bars and build a alley platform. I am curious about how durable and accurate they are. Thanks for any input.

Some random thoughts for new cattle breeders

If you think the things JTM posted does not happen you are crazy! Breeders push dates. It is simple it comes down to the mighty dollar. If they can sell a Nov at 1500 or say it is a Feb and get 2500 for it, some of them not all of them will.

    Sull Fed Ex

You have to pay for a certificate before you can get the calf registered. After you pay for it they send it directly to the ASA into your account. As far as I know it is just a payment to the bull owner for doing paper work on his end. Certificates vary in price, but I think FedEx was $15-$20.

    Sull Fed Ex

We got our certificate from cattlevisions but soon afterwards they quit carrying it. Someone else I know got one directly from the owner in Miss. I believe it is C and A Shorthorns. They said he was very helpful.

    Sull Fed Ex

We have a heifer calf that was born in Jan. of this year. She had a 74# bw. For my liking, she had to much shoulder and not enough top on her.

    We changed trains

We jumped on the same train about three years ago with a horrible sale barn calf to see if my daughter would stick with it. She did great. So took out a loan on my 401k to build a barn and bought 2 shorthorn heifers. Now we are all hooked. But it is something we do as a family and love every bit...

    Calf Breaking

Better to offend the seller than to get your daughter hurt.

This is my cheap steer. Opinions?

JMO He appears to be coarse in his shoulders, short necked, way to much leather on his front end (unless he is an american cross but does not appear to be due to the lack of sheath), high in his heart girth and flank. He does not appear to have much hip or bone. Sorry to be so critical but it is...

    jpj dead

I believe the majority of people have used him on heifers due to his low birth weight and calving ease.

    Would do you charge?

I just had a heifer bred this week. I dropped her off on Sat and picked her up on Wed. I paid $75 but that included buying a straw of semen from him.

    Bought feed lately?

I buy bagged feed every two weeks. It was .75 cents higher per bag today then it was two weeks ago. We are in North East Tx. How is it in your area?

Anybody else having problems with growing hair this summer?

Definitely genetics we have a red and white heifer that has lost alot of her hair (more of the white has fallen out than the red). Then we have a roan steer that has been growing hair all summer. Both are rinsed and cared for the same way but with different results.

    Breaking a calve to lead

If you have other cattle that are broke to lead alot of times they will follow them. If not try tieing him up for awhile before you feed and then lead him to the bucket.

    Blower Hoses

You could have a muffler shop build the Y  and get straight radiator hose with hose clamps to hook up your blowers.

How do you get rid of ring worm fast???

As posted above Fluid Film. It has always worked for me.

    Cordless clippers?

I bought a set of Andis about a month ago. The blade speed is slower than the corded ones and they are heavier. The batteries last about 45 mins, but you can buy a cord to replace the battery pack. All being said I prefer the corded but the cordless are handy to have for touch up.

    Ft Worth.

One question. After a calf is sifted out of the breed does it get a early release or do they have to stay thru out the whole show?
