Legal Advice/Suggestions - Me vs Big Oil

I'd be much more concerned (and even then minimally) if you had an injection well next to you.  If your well is screened in the same water bearing zone as theirs is, you are both drawing water from the same shallow aquifer.  Your well has been drawing it from your neighbors land all along...

    Tail Head Supplement

My rule of thumb on using supplements is I'm extremely suspicious of anything that is not made by a major animal feed company.  He's an ag teacher.  Not exactly sure what something by that name is supposed to do. I use Sure Champ on everything, calf manna when I'm holding one, Purina Power Fuel...

Legal Advice/Suggestions - Me vs Big Oil

You don't really have any legal grounds to protest.  Groundwater rights in Oklahoma (and Texas) are basically right of capture.  If you can pump it, it's yours.  Doesn't matter if its a energy company or a farmer or a homeowner. It is also highly unlikely you have anything to worry about. ...

How are MAB Cows Performing in the Pasture

We would all love for our show heifers to turn into great cows, but the reality is that it's somewhat pointless to worry about that.  If you are showing, your priority almost has to be to select one that do well. There's too much variability in any breed or crossbreed to think you find the...

New federal hunting age of 21 !!!

There is enough wrong in this world without making crap up.  I couldn't tell you how many Facebook posts I saw about "confirmed" ebola breakouts originating from "conservative" news outlets.  All of this kind of crap is blatant lies.  Don't justify lying by saying "it could be true".

Best clean Heatwave or Monopoly son?

Semen is available on Dry County in at least a couple of places.  I got mine from Genesource last year.  About to order some more...

Best clean Heatwave or Monopoly son?

I have two potentially outstanding month old bull calves out of a bull called Dry County (Monopoly x Irish Whidkey) that is owned by Dustin Glover.  He worked great on dirty cows.

    are online sales legit?

There is no substitute for just showing up to a trader/breeder's place with a check and a trailer.  Any other method is increasing your risk - be it overpaying or not buying as good of a calf as you think you are.

    MAB SEMEN

Has anyone called the owner of the bull to actually ask him?  Everything else is pure rumor.  As much demand as their is on him, I'd charge more also.

    holstein x clubby

I can't imagine a legitimate purpose for breeding a club calf bull to a holstein.  Calves are unlikely to be good at anything.  I'd be shocked if you could get a competetive show steer out of a dairy cow.  It's hard to get one out of good Angus cows.

    More Top, Less Gut.

With rare exceptions, you can't have too much guts in a steer.  That steer does not have too much middle.

    solid gold

In regards to calving ease, I've never heard of Solid Gold being used on heifers.  I suspect wires might be getting crossed with Troubador.  However,  I've never heard of problems on mature cows, certainly relative to Milk Man.  SG calves have been winning at Tx majors for a while, so yes they...

Article on youth programs - good read

I thought it was a terrible and poorly written article.  So no kids that can't have breeding stock to raise their own animals should be allowed to show? Last I checked all livestock are bred to serve at least some role in food production.

    Judge selection for major shows

I have no idea on exactly how Texas majors select open show judges. Junior shows are done by committees, and I don't think breed associations have any input.  I think the state FFA teacher organization makes unsolicited formal suggestions, but how much those suggestions are considered varies...

    Judge selection for major shows

In today's world, everybody knows everybody, especially in a world as small as red angus.  That being said, hardly anyone in the upper ends of cattle showing understands the concept of conflict of interest. There are a few blatant examples out there involving judges - usually ones with kids...

    Drought

A huge amount of the water usage in a city occurs due to landscaping - at least across much of the U.S.  Arid places are just going to have to stop it.  You can do internet searches about the current Wichita Falls water crisis and see the huge reductions in water usage since lawn irrigation has...

    Vaginal Prolapse?

If you have a real vaginal prolapse, you won't have to ask questions.  You'll have the whole reproductive tract hanging out.  I've had two - one had to be put down immediately, the other we had a vet try to fix and we'd have been better off putting her down from the get go.
