If you've ever complained about rounding up your cattle...

I'm pretty sure me and four boys got dog cussed last summer in Colorado.  We were on a day hike in the West Elk Wilderness near Montrose, Colorado.  We came up over the top of a hill and were going down the back side toward some heavy timber when we heard something crashing through trees.  I...

    Kris Black Sale

Cattle.com has full sale results listed in their sale report.  I didn't stay that long, but pretty sure they were plenty high.

    A Step Up

I just bought a bred heifer out of him from Kris Black's sale.  Any idea on what his daughters work well with (either purebred or anything else)?

    $30,000 Ewe Sold in Reno

Multiple steers have sold in Tx the past couple of years.  Havent heard of any higher than that.  I know at least one was real money ( none of this I buy yours, you buy mine).  The very best always sell private treaty.

EPA/Army Corps-- Clean Water Act-- WOTUS action

Most of this rule isn't just aimed at agriculture.  It affects any kind of activity that occurs in a jurisdictional water.

Solid Gold v Yellow Repo v Smokin Bob

His sale is proof it's not all hype and hair - both this one and his fall bull sale. I'm going Saturday.

Solid Gold v Yellow Repo v Smokin Bob

Thank you for clarifying this.  I apologize for accidentally misleading anyone on his status.

Solid Gold v Yellow Repo v Smokin Bob

I really thought I read it somewhere last fall because I was going to use him and then backed off because I'm running a really good PHAC cleanup bull on our "show steer" cows.  I'm betting what I saw back then was wrong.  If he's clean, I'll be using him this fall.

Solid Gold v Yellow Repo v Smokin Bob

You are correct, nothing I can find published says he was a carrier, but I could have sworn that I saw that last fall when I was picking bulls.  You might call and check for sure, but I sure thought he was PHAC.

Would Texas ever open their major shows to out of staters?

Our spring majors all have right around 2,000 head of steers show up.

Solid Gold v Yellow Repo v Smokin Bob

Just to make sure you know, Yellow Repo is PHC.  I envision his best role is to produce females.  I'm going to Black's sale this weekend and will the bred heifers out of him in person.  I'm intrigued by them. I'm probably the last person in Texas to try Solid Gold, but I have several on the way...

Would Texas ever open their major shows to out of staters?

No.  The fund raising behind these shows is to support Texas kids. And if we grow the program much more, the facilities won't hold them all.  FW really doesnt now.

    Breeding th carriers

I don't think the major breeders do this.  You see the TH bloodlines crossed, but I suspect they are using tested clean females.  Frankly, I don't there is an upside because in my experience it would be next to impossible to get a calf that would get big enough with a double shot of the common...

American people!! Need some advice from fellow American people

American cattle are generally slower to sexually mature than British/Exotic breeds.  I don't think it would hurt her, she'd just be unlikely to start cycling as early as other breeds.

    My eyes have been opened!

I remember Jensen's winning a $10k prize at a show called the Chiangus Classic in Tulsa in about 1987 with a steer supposedly pulled out of their feedlot.  He beat a very famous steer showed by Vicki Priesmeyer called Woody.  That was the first time Woody got beat all year.

    Ford Ecoboost

Just get ready for the emission system maintenance fees on the Cummins.  I think I wind up paying about $1500 once a year to get the thing cleaned out.  Mine runs great, but recently had to replace a injector for about $2500 at about 175k miles.  Hope the other ones don't go before I get rid of it.

    Costs of certain vet charges???

I'm in a business where the only thing we sell is our time - almost same exact thing as a vet.  By the time you gather your stuff, drive somewhere - even if its a mile away, and get back to work - you've lost at least a half hour.  If you were in your office, you would be billing someone for...

    Ford Ecoboost

Are you driving that in a 3/4 ton or 1 ton.  Late this year I'm going to trade my one ton Dodge diesel in for a new 1 ton Ford or Chevy with a gas engine.  I'm sick of the extra expense of a diesel.  I've paid enough $1500-$3000 repair/maint bills for replacing an injector or cleaning out the...
