    DRM Phineas Shorthorn bull calf

He is a really nice looking calf. There are so many options on keeping an interest in him I wouldn't worry about possession. I would sell full possession, half semen rights and keep the rights for a cell line. That way if you sell enough semen with your retained interest you can just use the...

    Showing a Shorthorn Steer

Without a picture it is tough to give to much advice. I would say in general Sin City calves can get alittle bigger. Feed him the same as you would any other calf. A good one is a good one no matter the breed so treat him the same. I just hope for your sake he isn't white. ;D

    Favorite Calf!

I don't know how far of a strech this is for the post. This is my favorite female we bred. Cyclone Trace bought her as a embryo from us for $500 and sold her for $20,000. Not a bad profit margin. Her mom was a great cow that I have posted pics of on here before. Another favorite of mine is Sue's...

Whos dat walkin in my field?? Do you know who Im gonna BE????

Cool story Mark. That is half the fun of this whole deal is all the stories of brushes with fame. The great ones we saw as calves or even better the great ones that we gave up two bids to early on. I kick myself for some of the animals we let get away. But then I figure if we would have owned...

    Marellan Super Dazzler dtr

Very nice looking cow. There aren't a whole lot of 2 year old daughters of his out there. IMO he is about the only Aussie bull that works consistently. Will look forward to seeing pics of the calf.

    Pneumatic Tee Post Driver

I don't know much about them but there was a display for them at the the local TSC right in between the pink John Deere apparel and the bunnies. I didn't look at the post driver that close but the bunnies sure were cute. ;D

What is in your tank you wish you had never bought ?

I will take it one step further and admit we flushed cows to bulls we wish we never bought semen on trying to get some hot new matings at the time. I bet I have a dozen or so eggs sired by Reno. IMO Reno is not as bad strictly from a sire POV as some might want to make him. But, if you put...

Is it common practice to pull weight off of steers before a show? Help please...

It just depends. For a county fair it probally isn't necessary unless it is very competitive. It might come in handy at a bigger show but you have to be careful. You don't want to shrink him so much he looks out of place and you also want to make sure you have enough time to make him look fresh...

    More pasture pics

It's probally just coincidence that all the pictures you just happened to take were of lots in a upcoming sale ;D. But when the cattle look like that I say self promote away!

    What Is This One Worth?

Here's the thing about this sight, you have everyone from the biggest club calf breeders to the kid who just showed a red ribbon steer he got from the sale barn at the county fair. So everyones opinion of what is good differs accordingly. IMO the calf is tight hearted and bold at the point of...

best place to buy high dollar claves

IMO, if you are asking where to buy a high dollar calf on a internet forum you probally don't need to be buying one.

    Shorthorn - Native Breeding Stock

Three years later we are still having the same arguments. No wonder the breed can't make progress on real issues. More importantly I still look like an educated, logical, voice of reason. How has the breed survived without me ;D? Thanks Mark sometimes I forget my own genius.

    Top 10 Shorthorn Cow Families

Sue, I don't know if you've been there or not but I'll add Lucky Clover Ranch. If you've seen one of Don's cows you have seen them all. The cows work in some harsh conditions. The flight over the Rockies is well worth the trip to see my favorite cow herd. I will also agree on the more Red Cloud...

    Top 10 Shorthorn Cow Families

I don't think you can top the Augusta Pride family in this breed on a name recognition basis. Though IMO it would look better on the bottom side. Still having that cow family in the pedigree adds value. The Duchess family is also very popular, so I would say the top side is better then the...

    all time favorite shorthorn bull

Some herd sires from the past

Sue, I will have to look around for a picture. We bought the maternal sister to Buckshot out of the first Revival sale. She is out of a bull called Magnum who was a Fortune out of a Picture Perfect cow. We sold her first calf out of Studley to JK and WHR. I was surprised that she was the second...

Some herd sires from the past

Nancy probally has some semen here in KS. We had a full sister and a maternal sister to Buckshot. I loved the Sunshine cow, one of my all time favorites. Mark might be able to help locate some as well.

Trim his hooves, take a better picture from a different angle and I can give a better response. Overall a good looking bull.

    Top 10 Shorthorn Cow Families

Is someone named irishshorthorns complaining about mongrel cattle a oxymoron. I got two words for you CLARE MAN. I love the breed as much as the next guy. I get indigestion thinking about some of the negative effects opening the herd book up to percentage cattle has had. We also have to...

    Top 10 Shorthorn Cow Families

How about Tonquish Rodeo Lady. I'm not old enough to remember but Mike Dugdale always told me Cedar Curve Colleen was the best cow he had ever seen. I also like the Star Baby's at Millvale. Mattis was the most unique individual I have seen. 3127 is the most impressive.
