Aj, is it released now or do you have to wait? I was told that the request has been made here but it will probably not be released before July 15th because of the nesting season.. but I'd think all the eggs would be fried or boiled by now anyway.
I'd consider getting a vet out to run some IV fluids in the little guy too.. Otherwise.. we went thru a saga over the last couple years with our neighbor and their starving horses. Makes me sick..
Is she kicking because you are surprising her or because she wants to? Is she an angus.. if so, good luck with that! (clapping)
We have a kicker this year and its been years since we've had one.. and yes she's got some angus. Anyway, we just put her on the wash rack and stood back and...
Another thing to think about is that a flush is kind of an insurance policy on that heifer. If something happens to her, you at least have that one flush. We've done it with success but also don't make a regular practice of it. One of the main reasons we don't do more of it is that we...
Really late to this discussion and I'm totally confused. Our state rules clearly state that goats cannot be braced. There was a huge deal made about getting this rule in place last fall. Yet every jackpot we've gone to this spring, they have been bracing the goats and they've been rewarded...
Ditto the plan except drill the hole in the pipe about 18" up because there is no easy way to keep the thing hanging. This way, you can let it sit on the ground and all the dirt & stuff will settle to the bottom and not plug the nipple.
We've used it before and had success in areas where the livestock were fairly isolated from other animals. There is truth to the neighbor's fly control being a factor if you have adjoining pastures and the cattle congregate nearby.
I haven't seen a rat tail in years. I am not sure why. We get a couple gray calves every year which comes from the diluter gene on the reds in Simmentals. Last year, the off colored cattle were still taking a hit at the sale barn but they sold right with the group this spring. We try to keep...
I agree, she doesn't look like a 200# pig to me either.
Most pigs will go for anything sweet. Marshmallows usually work for us. We have had a pig or two over the years who won't eat a certain cookie or marshmallow like the rest. The key is to find out what they like best. They each...
We are really liking our Amigo calves! We used him on first calf heifers with no problems and the calves seem to have a lot of grow.. but he is another DO son
Looks like a pretty normal simmi calf color to me. We probably get as many that start out that color as start out jet black. That calf will turn black when it sheds that baby hair.
Thanks ALtsimmy! She only has halter on when she is tied up and it doesn't matter if she is tied with her head up or down, she can slip that halter is just seconds. She is fast.
How do you keep a halter on a calf who has learned how to slip/rub it off. She's pretty fast about it too. We've tried tying twine to the cheeks and under her jaw but she can slip even that off. The only way we can keep her tied is with a neck rope. Otherwise she is a very gentle heifer...
I've seen the same thing JIT. Big bodied cow with a normal sized calf trying to suck the flank area. Yes we want the body but sometimes maybe we are too extreme with that. Also, as previously stated, its not the frame score at all.. its the distance from belly to ground. Maybe we...
