    Sand for coolroom bedding-UPDATE

We use wood pellets. We spread them out and wet them down thouroughly. Absorbs the urine, easy to clean. We contacted a mill that makes them and bought directly. I think we paid 125.00 for 100 50 pound bags.

TM Gus...shorthorn people what do you think?

I'd really like to see some pictures of Gus calves if anyone has them. He's a nice bull, hands down. Don't think Ivy League has any offspring yet? We had a really nice heifer from Deadwood this year.

What is everyone paying for hay?

Colorado is all over the board. People are trying to get last years prices, up to 9.00 a bale when we have had a ton of rain this year and everyone is baling hay. Realistically small bales are going for 5.00 to 6.00. We got 4x4x8's about 1500 Pd's for 90.00 a piece.

    Cap and Trade

Our youngest just graduated. If we could figure out somewhere outside of the U.S. where we could move and take our cows with us I think we would seriously consider it. It's just so damn sad how fast it's all going to hell.

    Cap and Trade

‘Cap and Trade' has enraged many ranchers and farmers. “This legislation has the potential to devastate the agricultural community with higher operating costs and destroy ways of life in rural America.” - Rob Goodlatte, House Agricultural Committee CattleGrower.com has formed a petition...

Tying in the Barn or Loose?

How many hours a day are you tying them up for? I know a lot of people might argue with me on this but I don't tie up on a regular basis. Our cows get tied up for grooming at least a couple of hours every day or every other day. They lead and are good with setting up. We do it at first but never...

    Just look.......green grass everywhere!!!!

I'm just wondering if some of you folks who haven't had any rain have gotten any relief. I sure hope so. We continue to get quite heavy rain storms here.

If I were you I would if you haven't already start a paper trail. Send him an invoice, spell out clearly exactly what was bought, how much, how much you discounted it and the balance owed. Put on it payment due upon receipt and if not paid how much interest you will charge on outstanding...

    Strange visitor

One day after a spring snow when there was about 4 inches of snow on the ground my daughter on the way to school found a border collie pup laying in the ditch covered with snow. I get so disgusted with people throwing their dogs out on the country roads. Take them to the human society...

Fair's in 27 days, pics of our steer and heifer

Our ranch raised category is ran a little differently. The steer has to be raised within the immediate family and within our state. You buy the steer and it doesn't count. I'm sure there is still some cheating going on but it limits it because of the brand papers.

Fair's in 27 days, pics of our steer and heifer

Our heifer is HUGE! We bought the Angus cow from our friend Mitch Rohr. He has some really nice pb Angus. The cow wasn't nearly as big as the heifer at her age but she is coming on strong now. Our pb Shorthorn bull is big too so she comes by it naturally. Our county show is set up pretty weird...

    Grooming Question

We put 1/4 Green Listerine and 3/4 water in a fogger and use that. It seems to work well and definitely cools the hide down.

Fair's in 27 days, pics of our steer and heifer

Here's a couple pictures of our steer and heifer. As you can tell I haven't come close to mastering the art of taking decent pictures. Now I know the frustration of having pretty nice cattle and not being able to present them properly. Oh well, maybe you can get an idea from these anyway. The...

    Halter Breaking

I agree it is funny now. Would have made a great YouTube video. The 4-H kid is too old to show now but ever year was an adventure with his steers. Once his cow got out of his fencing and went all the way to town.

Am I Getting Old...Love No Fit Shows

Boy, I am right there with you! ;D

    Halter Breaking

The craziest thing I've ever seen was during a steer class at county fair a steer broke loose from a 16 year old boy. Jumped the panels, ran around the show ring in front of the bleachers. Everyone was trying to catch him and that freaked him out even worse. Some idiot took a ladder to block one...

    How to get hair

After we completely dry the cow we spray a liberal amount of Revive onto the cow, including the legs and belly. We take our palm scrub brush that we use for washing and "comb" the Revive deep into the skin then blow into the hair. Try not to blow it all out like you do the water. From early on...
